Chapter 1477: The Spirit Crystal of the Underworld

Back to Chapter List
These silvery threads, these strange fish—each slender as a needle. While the silvery filaments could not penetrate high-tier immortal beasts, they posed an absolute fatal threat to many lower-tier creatures unable to emit protective spiritual radiance. In a matter of moments, the hundreds of immortal beasts that surged into the corridor first were struck through, their bodies riddled with wounds, collapsing to the ground. The subsequent waves of beasts were stunned, yet many began to glow with spiritual light, and the pygmy ghosts and puppets on either side immediately raised their weapons, swiftly blocking most of the silvery threads. The silvery filaments still surged forth from the black light screen, flowing endlessly, without end. Under the urgent call of a blood-robed figure, all the lower-tier beasts rushing into the corridor scrambled desperately toward the far end, fleeing at full speed. Even among the lower-tier creatures, when they flew at full power, their speed was astonishing. The waves of immortal aura surged forward, and many beasts surged past half the corridor. At that very moment, an unexpected upheaval occurred! Black silhouettes emerged from the surrounding black screens, accompanied by eerie cries coming from all directions. Various dark objects, shaped in strange forms, squeezed out of the screens in an uncanny manner. Some of the shadows opened their mouths, spewing out streams of white water arrows; others lunged forward, revealing their sharp fangs, and rolled into heaps, tearing at one another. Any spirit struck by the water arrows instantly stiffened and fell lifeless. Even those protected by a shimmering aura could not withstand the arrows' assault—black mist surged over their bodies, and though they managed to stagger a few steps further, they soon succumbed. The spirits engaged in combat with the shadows were no different—once bitten, they struggled only briefly before their souls vanished, their bodies instantly turning into pools of foul water. The shadows themselves carried a strange and potent toxin. "This is indeed the manifestation of yin ghosts!" Han Li's eyes flashed with blue light as he watched the scene from afar, his mind stirred with astonishment. Under his spiritual vision, he could see every detail clearly. These dark figures clearly resembled countless strange, living corpses—yet at present, they had all transformed into mindless entities akin to zombies, desperately charging toward the living spirits, completely ignoring the puppets and ghost soldiers on either side. Of course, the tens of thousands of lower-tier spirit creatures were far from impervious; in their initial moment of surprise, they either spat out fiery balls or raised their claws to unleash cascades of wind blades and other spells, all converging densely upon these shadowy ghosts. Yet what astonished the spirits most was that, regardless of the spells striking them, the shadows would merely flicker and vanish into their bodies—without a single effect. Now, all the spirit creatures were thrown into panic. "Stupid! These shadow ghosts cannot stray far from the River of the Dead. As long as they remain within the passage, they'll be safe," the cold voice of the six-limbed being suddenly echoed throughout the corridor, resonating with such force that it sent every spirit creature's ears buzzing. At once, the lower-tier beasts finally awoke to their situation and immediately ceased responding to the attacks from the shadow spirits, instead desperately rushing toward the far end of the passage. With a distance of over ten thousand zhang, swift beasts merely needed a few flashes of movement to reach the other side. Though the remaining creatures sustained heavy damage under the assaults of the monstrous fish and shadow spirits, thanks to their overwhelming numbers, only about one-fifth of the beasts that had entered the passage were truly eliminated. The following waves of lower-tier beasts, under the relentless pressure from the higher-tier creatures, continued to surge forward in a steady, overwhelming tide. The passage was now filled with the scent of blood. Outside, Mu Qing, the beautiful woman, and others watched the scene with serious expressions, yet no one moved to offer assistance—seeming to await something. As Han Li furrowed his brow, silently pondering the purpose of these individuals, a massive black silhouette descended upon a section of the passage above. A sudden, violent tremor shook the previously stable black aura, causing it to quiver. With sharp bursts of sound, several massive tentacles—resembling great serpents—pierced through the aura and surged into the corridor. With a mere sweep, they snatched dozens of fleeing creatures, pulling them swiftly into the river of darkness beyond the aura. After several cries of distress, the creatures seemed to be swallowed whole by the immense black forms, only for the tentacles to reappear once more within the corridor. Immediately, the lower-tier creatures nearby became disoriented and panicked. "Here they are! It's happening—attack!" The several chieftains were overjoyed upon seeing the tentacles appear, and Liu Zhu, without hesitation, roared. At once, five figures—two clad in crimson robes, Liu Zhu, Mu Qing, and the graceful woman—glowed briefly and vanished from their spots. The next moment, their forms reappeared mysteriously at the section of corridor where the tentacles had appeared. Mu Qing and the other three reached out simultaneously, each grasping the void with a single hand. Four immense hands of different colors instantly materialized out of thin air, flashing into action and each seizing one of the massive tentacles, then pulling them downward with powerful force. With all four beings at the fusion stage acting simultaneously, even a mountain of countless blades would have been lifted effortlessly. A thunderous roar followed, and with a resounding "crack," the tentacle's owner was violently yanked from the light barrier into the corridor. To their astonishment, it was a huge, white, round mass of flesh! Lacking a nose or eyes, it had only a massive mouth occupying nearly half its body. On its upper half, seven or eight long tentacles extended—most of them gripped firmly by the light hands and motionless, while several others danced wildly above, crashing down with force upon the several chieftains of the beasts. A cold exhalation! A dark, misty blade of light emerged from the void, flashing swiftly and cleaving the great flesh mass in two. A figure shot out like a vapor, momentarily swirling before extracting an object from within the mass, then solidifying into form with a gentle shimmer. It was Six-Foot, who had remained inactive until now. Now, he held in one hand a crystalline orb the size of an egg, glowing softly with a milky white radiance. "At last, we've secured the Spirit Crystal of the Underworld. With this, passing through the next trial will be much easier," Six-Foot said, examining the orb with satisfaction and giving a nod of approval. The beautiful woman, Mu Qing, and the others, seeing how smoothly they had obtained the crystal, likewise looked relieved and pleased. "Heh, in the region of the River of the Dead, there is only one such Spirit of the River of the Dead that dwells there. Such a commotion could not fail to awaken it. Though it may possess some powers, how could it possibly withstand a joint assault from us?" Another figure in a crimson robe chuckled in agreement. Indeed! Though their combined attack appeared simple, it had been the result of several prior rehearsals by the group, enabling them to effortlessly defeat this spiritually adept being of the River of the Dead. "Since we now have the item, let us swiftly proceed through this area." This time, only the yin ghosts appeared, without encountering the other more formidable spectral beings from last time—quite a fortunate turn of events. Mu Qingxue waved her hand, and a surge of green light swept down, instantly scattering several yin ghosts that had rushed toward her into fragments. As she spoke, her voice remained calm. The others offered no objections and swiftly transformed into streaks of dazzling light, breaking through the air and moving toward the other side of the passage. At the far end of the black passage, the high-ranking spectral creatures summoned by Lu Fu and the others began to take to their flight, entering the passage one by one. Han Li and the Golden Ape followed suit, also vanishing into the passage. For a high-level being like Han Li, the attacks from the strange fish and yin ghosts were naturally insignificant. Moreover, their speed far surpassed that of lower-tier spectral creatures. In just a brief moment, they safely traversed the passage and arrived in an immense, boundless space. Meanwhile, the lower-tier spectral beings emerging from this passage continued to flow in a steady stream. After a full meal's worth of time, finally, the tens of thousands of monsters, silver-armored xuan gui, and puppets all passed through the black passage. The shadow ghosts and puppets fared well, suffering almost no damage at all. However, the lower-tier monsters not only lost several limbs but also had many arriving here with severe injuries. Fortunately, the monsters as a whole possessed remarkable bodily recovery abilities, so there was little to worry about. After several divine kings discussed and settled on an approximate location, the six-legged creature flew over and issued orders. Immediately, chaos erupted among everyone, who quickly formed several groups and then advanced in a grand procession toward a specific direction. Han Li remained standing behind Qingmu, alongside the golden ape. Qingmu herself stood gracefully atop a magnificent golden flower, commanding a group of high-ranking immortals, maintaining a central position. The six-legged creature and the beautiful woman led eight thousand ghost soldiers, advancing with a steady gust of cold wind at the forefront, while the two clad in crimson robes naturally activated their puppets at the rear. The entire formation resembled a swift, black dragon, racing forward so rapidly that within moments it had completely swept the original exit path behind it into oblivion. Several hours later, the entire force had emerged from this expanse of black sandy land, only to be stunned by what lay before them. The scene was breathtaking—white bones stretched endlessly, stretching to the horizon! To the direction in which the party was advancing, various skeletons were scattered across the plain, of varying sizes—clearly remnants of diverse beings. Some piled up into towering heaps, others stained with patches of color, appearing remarkably aged and worn. A faint, putrid odor rose subtly from the depths of the bone plain, growing more oppressive with each passing moment, making the party's spirits even more uneasy. Yet the group only paused briefly, then, under the guidance of the six-legged elder and the white-haired beauty at the forefront, pressed steadily deeper into the bone-covered terrain. After advancing over ten miles, the scene remained uniformly white, and the foul stench grew increasingly strong. Han Li had long since used his protective spiritual light to shield himself from the odor, yet he kept his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, his pupils occasionally flashing with blue light. Though his spiritual awareness remained somewhat constrained, his clear and refined spiritual vision allowed him to perceive distant details with ease. Suddenly, the calm expression on Han Li's face tightened, and he softly exhaled.
