Chapter 1596: Appraisal

Back to Chapter List
When Han Li stepped out of the Chongxiang Pavilion a second time, he noticed that already many people had begun entering the main gate of the auction hall. Seeing this, Han Li's expression shifted slightly, and he immediately walked toward the entrance without hesitation. The main gate of the hall was nearly three or four times wider than the side pavilions' entrances, and the number of blue-robed guards stationed there far exceeded those at the side pavilions. Yet aside from maintaining order, these guards made no further movements. Han Li moved quietly through the crowd and entered the hall. As soon as he stepped through the main door, his eyes widened. Before him lay a grand hall with several parallel corridors extending out. At each corridor entrance, there hung a plaque bearing simple, unusual classical Chinese characters such as "Appraisal," "Pawn," and "Hall." Beside each plaque stood a young attendant, respectfully standing in place. Han Li glanced at the signs and his face flashed with a moment of surprise, but after a brief thought, he suddenly strode forward toward one of them. "What does 'appraisal' mean?" Han Li asked, standing at the entrance of the corridor and pointing to the sign beside him, his voice steady. "It's the appraisal section for the auction items. If you have any rare possessions, you may have them appraised and enter the auction here." The young attendant, with a clear and refined appearance, bowed respectfully. "Ah, I see," Han Li nodded, then stepped confidently into the corridor without further hesitation. The door was wide open, yet veiled by a shimmering sheet of green light. In front of the screen, several to eight foreign cultivators stood in a line, quietly waiting. Han Li was somewhat surprised, but composedly walked forward and positioned himself at the very end of the line. A flash of green light caused the screen to part, revealing a foreign cultivator with red hair, whose large mouth was slightly open as if he had encountered something delightful inside. This cultivator paid no attention to Han Li or the others at the entrance and simply strode through the crowd, hurrying toward the corridor's exit. Meanwhile, the other foreign cultivator closest to the screen moved silently into the room. Within just a cup of tea's time, all the people in front of Han Li entered and then emerged, their movements remarkably swift. In parallel, several to five more individuals appeared from behind Han Li. It seemed that many others shared Han Li's intention—having just arrived at the venue at the very moment the auction began. When another foreigner, looking disheartened, stepped out of the blue light curtain, Han Li raised his leg and stepped into it. Beyond the curtain lay a bright milky glow, revealing a vast chamber measuring over thirty zhang in size. The walls were composed of gray-white stone, their surfaces shimmering with dense arrays of runes that ensured the room's secrecy. Yet within this chamber, aside from a jade table and three wooden chairs, there was only a simple teleportation array located in one corner. Seated on the three chairs were three figures, each uniformly pale and hazy in appearance. Under the veil of luminous energy, all three figures appeared indistinct—both in form and face, making it impossible to discern their true identities. Han Li instinctively cast his spiritual awareness over them. To his surprise, the three figures seemed to carry various treasures with them—wherever his awareness touched, their vital energies vanished completely, rendering their levels of cultivation indistinguishable. Han Li's mind stirred. "Comrade, if you have any items you wish to present at this auction, please bring them forward for our three to view." But let me clarify upfront: our four-tribe auction hall only deals in the finest materials and treasures. For lesser items, kindly proceed to the side pavilion and sell them there separately. Additionally, if you have any dissatisfaction with our assessment of the three of us, you may raise it on the spot—we will then have three fresh evaluators review your items for you." The middle figure spoke, her voice clear and pleasant, and she was a young woman. "Thank you for the reminder, I now understand," said Han Li, maintaining his composed expression. He nodded and, with a slight flick of his sleeve, then a gentle turn of his hands, two objects appeared—one a jade vial of emerald green, and the other a flawless white jade box. Han Li did not move toward them, but instead tossed both items into the air. Instantly, each item seemed to be gently supported by an invisible hand, drifting slowly toward the three figures before settling steadily in front of them. The two figures who had remained silent until now reached out without hesitation, each grasping one—the vial and the jade box—securely in hand. As soon as the bottle was opened, a remarkably strong aroma of medicine rushed into the air, and then, faintly, the sound of a dragon's roar seemed to emanate from within. A vibrant green glow, full of spirit, shot out and soared from the bottle. The figure at the scene murmured lightly in surprise, quickly resealed the bottle, and then, with a swift motion of one sleeve, launched it into the air. Amidst a bright white light, he caught the green glow in his sleeve and held it firmly in his hands. He focused his gaze intently. The figure gasped aloud. "Jin Lei Zhu! Brother, please examine it more carefully." The middle woman seemed equally startled, yet added a brief instruction. "Rest assured, I will pay close attention," the figure who had been examining the green bamboo replied, drawing a deep breath and speaking with a steady voice. After completing these actions, the figure did not cease. He then produced a jade-green jar, releasing a stream of green vapor, which was likewise extinguished by the golden arcs emitted by the bamboo. "Indeed, it is the Golden Thunder Bamboo, no doubt," the figure exhaled deeply, speaking with confidence. "Thank you! Companion, how is the evaluation of the pill? Since it now possesses a touch of spirit, it must surely be no ordinary medicine." The woman nodded and turned to the other figure, asking. "This pill primarily embodies the Wood nature, with Earth and Metal attributes as secondary elements. Its essence has become spiritually attuned, making it suitable for consumption by those at the seventh and eighth levels of the clan. At the ninth level, however, its effectiveness drops to just one-tenth of its original potency. This pill is certainly worthy of being classified as a first-rank medicine." The other figure, who had merely gazed at the pill for a while, had seemingly employed some subtle means to describe its properties with remarkable precision. Han Li, standing in place, could not help but display a subtle expression of astonishment. "Congratulations, friend. Whether it's the Golden Thunder Bamboo or these pills, all of them can now participate in this auction. Especially the former—one that truly deserves a spot among the top-tier items. By the way, do these pills have specific names? Also, I've set a base price for you. Would you like to review it?" The woman turned her head, carefully glanced at Han Li, and then smiled lightly. Without waiting for Han Li to respond, she raised her hand, swiftly writing several characters on a pale white jade plaque resting on the jade table, then tossed it toward Han Li. Han Li caught the plaque and glanced at it briefly before nodding. "These base prices are acceptable. After all, I believe these items won't actually sell at the base price. As for the pills, they're called 'Tenglong Pills.' Crafting them is quite a challenge." "Excellent. We'll auction them under the name 'Tenglong Pills.' Friend, please keep this jade plaque. It will serve as the official document for settling your spiritual stones after the auction concludes." "The lady spoke gently. 'I understand. If there's no further issue with the group confrontation, I'll head to the hall to await the auction results.'" Han Li bowed slightly to the three and calmly delivered his parting words. "Good journey, Master! The items will be carefully handed over to you by us three." The lady replied with a warm smile. Han Li nodded and turned to walk back. Without any apparent movement from the three, it seemed that one of them had been managing the room's seal—the translucent screen at the door flashed a shade of green and parted smoothly. Han Li stepped out of the room, making no effort to pause or attend to the others standing at the entrance, and walked steadily down the corridor. More foreign guests appeared in the hall, continuously entering the central corridor marked as the Auction Hall. Han Li made no hesitation and followed suit. After passing through a corridor glowing with yellow light, he found himself in a vast hall. As he took in the surroundings, his expression grew somewhat moved. This hall not only boasts an astonishingly vast space, but is also divided into three levels—upper, middle, and lower—arranged throughout the hall. The materials used for the upper and middle levels are unknown, yet everything appears uniformly pure white, floating silently in mid-air without any visible supports, exuding an air of mystery. The middle and lower levels consist of ordinary tables and chairs, spaced merely a few zhang apart. Only at the very top level are there identical rooms, each of which occasionally glows with ethereal light, as though imbued with some enchantment or spell. Clearly, these rooms were specially designed for those of distinguished status and standing within Yun City. Han Li glanced at them briefly and then, unimpressed, turned his gaze away, settling himself at a quiet, unremarkable corner. He simply sat there, waiting patiently for the auction to begin. —Double the final day. Seeking next month's subscription now.
