Chapter 1,622: Ambush

Back to Chapter List
The Qi Lin shimmered with a deep, dark glow, its body slightly blurred. Yet facing this ethereal form, the young girl appeared profoundly serious, raising one hand and gently pointing at the void. One after another, strange black characters emerged, only to vanish into the body of the black Qi Lin. Instantly, the once fearsome black Qi Lin saw its fierce gaze soften, and then surged forward, transforming into a concentrated beam of black light. The young woman from the Crystal Clan smiled faintly. But as soon as she finished speaking, she no longer hesitated, her figure moving swiftly and vanishing into the magical aura with a flash of black light. Neither of them knew that, just shortly after they had entered the aura, a gray-white boulder the size of a clenched fist suddenly rose from the slope of the nearby mountain. Though modest in size, the stone spun smoothly before suddenly fracturing inch by inch on its surface, transforming into a shining golden beetle. In a single flash, it silently drifted into the magical channel as well. At the same time, Han Li stepped out of the magical channel and quietly appeared at the entrance of a grand hall, gazing intently inward. The hall was circular and vast, with a diameter of over a hundred zhang. At its center stood a golden magical array stretching thirty zhang in height, surrounded by twelve black stone pillars several zhang tall, each carved with vivid, fierce depictions of green-faced, toothy demons, their forms grotesque and imposing. Black magical energies surged from the patterns and flowed steadily toward the center of the spell array. At the very heart of the array stood a large blood-red bed, upon which lay a massive black ape, several dozen feet long. Its sharp tusks were prominently displayed, its limbs unusually long, and three towering, shimmering yellow horns rose from its head. A deep purple wound, the size of a human head, covered its chest, clearly revealing several ribs and a dark, pulsating heart. Yet strangely, the giant ape's eyes were closed, and as its dark, shimmering skin glowed, it gradually absorbed the magical energies drifting in from all around. The blood-red bed itself churned with a steady mist, continuously releasing waves of blood vapor that flowed into the ape's body. Han Li stood at the entrance, calmly observing everything within the hall, showing no intention to move or act. At this moment, his body had completely dissolved into an ethereal state, so that even those standing close to him were often unable to perceive his presence. Yet, facing a mid-to-high stage fusion entity, Han Li still couldn't be certain that Tuo Yi Hua Qing Fu Zhen had concealed his past. Thus, Han Li remained motionless at his current distance, silently observing everything unfolding before him. However, when the golden armored insect emerged from the mountain slope outside the pavilion, Han Li's expression slightly shifted, but after a flash of cold light in his eyes, he returned to his usual composure. Originally, before entering this place, to be safe, he had secretly stationed a golden devouring insect outside, one that had undergone mutation after consuming peculiar stone pillars. In fact, since first noticing that these mutated devouring insects had become more resilient and heavier, over the past few years of cultivation and study, Han Li had discovered an additional ability unique to these transformed spirits—the ability to absorb and still the surrounding atmosphere, effectively turning itself into stone. This particular talent, he had stumbled upon incidentally while refining his own spiritual awareness manipulation techniques. After sinking into the earth and stone, this golden-devouring insect unexpectedly surges forth a powerful, strange earth spirit energy, skillfully merging with the surrounding soil and stone. As a result, unless someone specifically knows the precise location where the insect is hidden—or possesses a specially cultivated spiritual sight capable of seeing through it—no matter how strong their spiritual awareness, they will be unable to detect any anomaly as long as the insect remains concealed within the earth. It is precisely because of this that Han Li was able to so easily venture alone deep into the mountain's core. Although hindered by the magical aura, he could not continuously monitor the crystal-clad woman's exact movements through the insect, he could still sense her through vague spiritual awareness, knowing she was not simply staying put outside but had begun taking some small, active steps. Han Li did not find this development particularly surprising. Already, when she first proposed exchanging materials from a saint-tier beast for the repair of his celestial-magic armor, he had suspected that she might be concealing certain information. Otherwise, this woman clearly wasn't an ordinary Crystalline race member. Though Saint-Rank魔兽 materials were rare, after extracting the magic core, they should not have warranted such extensive efforts from the other party—let alone the willingness to partially bestow such a precious treasure as the Heavenly-Extraterrestrial Armor! Subsequently, after entering the Mo Ke Mountain range, their party faced several extremely perilous incidents, yet this woman never once showed any sign of giving up. Han Li's confidence in her grew even stronger. However, he had no resentment or displeasure regarding this matter. To Han Li, as long as the woman did not compromise his own interests and could successfully restore the Heavenly-Extraterrestrial Armor using the Saint-Rank magic core as originally promised, even if she made a few minor maneuvers, he would simply overlook them. Of course, if her interests were truly compelling enough to warrant his involvement, he would not hesitate to step in. Though this woman possessed certain abilities, her current cultivation level was so low that Han Li was certain he could maintain full control throughout the situation. Now, standing at the entrance of the hall, he observed for a full cup of tea—finally confirming that aside from the magical array and the twelve pillars surrounding him, there were no other restrictions in the entire hall. The massive ape before him was indeed severely wounded and deeply asleep. Thus, until the crystal族 woman's intentions became clear, he had no intention of delaying in securing the holy-tier magical core at hand. As long as he didn't have to engage in a direct clash, he was confident he could strike and defeat this beast in a single, decisive blow. With this thought firmly settled in his mind, a flash of cold light passed through his eyes, and he finally decided to act. Taking a deep breath, he shook both sleeves. In one hand, a flash of emerald light revealed several dozen round, jade-like spheres hovering in his grasp; in the other, a thick stack of scrolls suddenly appeared. He then threw both items forward, and they floated gracefully before him. At the same time, golden light rippled across his body, and two golden, fist-sized exoskeleton insects soared out from his form. After completing all this, Han Li suddenly pressed a hand seal, and his body gradually solidified from the ethereal state, returning to its original form. Throughout this process, he kept his eyes fixed on the massive black ape in the hall. The ape remained perfectly still on the crimson bed, showing no signs of disturbance whatsoever. Han Li's expression eased slightly, and with a finger gesture toward the stack of scrolls before him, the scrolls simultaneously drifted gently toward the corners of the hall, then vanished in a flash of silver light on all sides. Several round beads slowly floated toward the black pillars. However, as they approached the tops of the pillars and neared the great array, the jade-colored beads halted abruptly, hovering at a height of several feet above each pillar, motionless. With a mere thought, the two gold-devouring insects also glided silently to a distance of no more than fifteen zhang from the array, hovering motionless in the air, watching intently. After completing all this, Han Li glanced again at the black magical circle. Seeing it still motionless, he hesitated briefly before suddenly raising one hand toward the empty space in the corner of the hall. A flash of light, and a silver phoenix appeared mysteriously at a distance, vanishing instantly as it spread its wings. The very next moment, a silver phoenix materialized silently at the top of the hall, directly above the massive array, hovering motionless in the air. Han Li's face grew serious, yet his mind remained resolute. With a firm mental command, he sent out his intent. The silver phoenix opened its mouth in the sky, spitting out a fine thread of gold and silver light—pure spiritual vortex radiance! The thread moved with astonishing speed. As it just emerged from the phoenix's mouth, it had already reached the lower magical array. Indeed, the massive array had been inexplicably placed there. A low hum suddenly rose throughout the hall, and instantly, a blood-colored light shield materialized above the array, completely enclosing the giant ape beneath. Yet, upon contact with this light shield, the golden and silver filaments passed through it as if untouched, suddenly appearing on the giant ape's skull in a flash. The ethereal spiral of light seemed poised to pierce straight through the massive head. Witnessing this critical moment, Han Li at a distance instantly held his breath. A sharp "clang!" Suddenly, a solid layer of deep purple armor fully enveloped the giant ape's seemingly empty form. The golden and silver filaments, which had struck the ape's face mask with no resistance, were rebounded with a trembling motion, producing an eerie metallic clashing sound! Seeing this, Han Li's face paled instantly and, without hesitation, shed any further concealment. A flash of golden light surged over his body, and a golden, three-headed, six-armed celestial form materialized above his head. As he silently chanted to himself, two of the three heads opened their eyes, radiating a piercing brilliance, while all six arms simultaneously swept upward and then interlaced in pairs. In the golden hands, a flash of varied lights revealed three massive swords, slightly blurred in form. Though the swords were ancient in appearance, with flowing runes shimmering upon their surfaces, each differed in hue. One was thin as a sheet of paper, gleaming with golden light. Another was narrow and unusually long, radiating vibrant green light. The third, surprisingly thick and without a sharp edge, was as dark as ink. Upon contact with the electric light, the violet aura and the azure arcs compressed together. The violet aura immediately emitted a cry of distress and shattered, with countless azure arcs plunging downward with fierce force. At the same time, the two golden-devouring insects, which had been waiting for some time, and the three-colored sword beams surged forth, striking in a swift, opportune incursion.
