Chapter 1916: The Battle of Yitian (Seven)

Back to Chapter List
The ram-like giant was observing the several fused beings among the combatants. To it, though the human and demon armies numbered in the thousands, only these few could pose any real threat. Among the human side, the two fused figures bore the familiar scent of those who had once sealed it away. The emanations of the demon elders likewise stirred strong displeasure within it. Had it been at its peak power earlier, it would have effortlessly devoured both sides whole. But now, due to lingering internal injuries and the prolonged period of being sealed, its magical strength had dwindled to only half of what it once was, and thus it dared not act so boldly or recklessly. Subconsciously, the beast was murmuring to itself. Yet at that very moment, Lin Luan's sharp cry reached its ears, and simultaneously, the blood seal within its head, stimulated by the disturbance, swelled and fluctuated once more. Having just endured the intense, almost soul-searing pain that seemed poised to erupt anew, the ram-beast shuddered, then, without hesitation, suddenly opened its massive maw, unleashing a yellow-hazy, strange gale that swept directly toward the demonic army engaged in assaulting the city below. In an instant, the heavens dimmed, and yellow dust surged in swirling gusts. The demonic beasts caught in the yellow phoenix wind were effortlessly torn apart by the sheer force within, with no resistance at all. Within moments, thousands of beasts and hundreds of demonic cavalry were buried beneath the roaring wind. "Hmph! Hengxi—you dare to ally with the human forces and oppose our holy lineage? Then today, you shall share this city's fate!" The black-armored man, seeing this, was furious. With a sharp exhalation, he suddenly flipped his hand, tossing out a dark leather sack, then moved his arm, producing from his grasp a golden javelin only a few inches long. As it flickered, the javelin instantly expanded to a hundred zhang in length. The giant formed by the black-armored man grasped the fork tightly and delivered a fierce slash toward the swirling gust below. A shimmering blade of jade-green light cascaded down like a waterfall, cutting through the yellow wind in a single flash and piercing the ground with a brilliant, dazzling glow. A tremendous roar echoed—earth trembled, and a colossal fissure, stretching a thousand zhang in length, appeared suddenly in midair. The wild wind vanished completely, leaving not a trace. The black leather sack thrown aside suddenly burst forth with a thunderclap, launching two thick arcs of silver light. In an instant, it transformed into two massive wolves, each wrapped in radiant silver lightning. Each wolf measured three or four zhang in length, with pairs of silver thunder-wings sprouting along their backs. When they spread their wings, they emitted piercing, mournful howls and charged directly toward the ram-headed giant. The horned, sheep-faced giant, at this sight, flashed a look of disdain. With no words, a massive palm shot out, extending far into the air. A yellow, hundred-zhang-wide palm, resembling a small mountain, materialized above the two giant wolves. As it descended, it instantly crushed the two seemingly extraordinary beasts, their bodies exploding under the weight. The black-armored man was startled, and without hesitation, drove his golden pike forward with a powerful slash. The blade's brilliant edge flashed once more, delivering a second strike. At the same time, he activated his inner spell, causing his two black hammers to manifest in layers of ethereal shadows, crashing down upon the giant creature. Receiving successive attacks from the black-armored man, the sheep-headed giant naturally interpreted them as a challenge. A flash of fierce determination passed through his eyes. With a swift motion, his two bat-like wings swept forward, momentarily blurring, and instantly transforming into two dense, dark-yellow clouds that completely engulfed his massive form. A mighty blade and a dense array of hammer blows struck against Huang Yun, producing only a series of dull thuds—yet they failed to penetrate the defense at all. The black-armored warrior was startled, crossing his golden fork overhead and swiftly forming gestures with one hand. Instantly, clusters of silver lightning and flame bloomed around his body, ready to launch a barrage at the enemy. But at that moment, a sudden ripple of energy surged above his head, and a massive, furry hand materialized out of nowhere, pressing down upon him. Even before the hand fully descended, a tremendous force enveloped the warrior, sealing him in. He felt his shoulders grow heavy, his entire body suddenly slowing as if pressed by a mountain, while the surrounding space instantly hardened into steel—so rigid that moving his fingers became an immense effort. As the black-armored giant was a magus of late-stage mastery from the demonic realm, his experience and powers naturally far surpassed those of ordinary demonic cultivators. Upon being startled and enraged, he roared loudly, causing the surrounding flashes of lightning and flames that had formed to burst forth simultaneously, and the spatial barriers encircling him to be violently shattered. At the same time, a single, massive, black elephant phantom emerged behind him. With a low bellow, he projected an astonishing aura that surged skyward. The once-suppressed black-armored giant now radiated a vibrant black glow throughout his body, his physical strength seemingly amplified severalfold, and despite the immense pressure, he managed to manifest over a hundred identical phantom figures, each identical in form, who swiftly darted off in all directions. Yet, the enormous physical hand in the sky merely trembled slightly before expanding and descending with lightning speed, sweeping out a wave of yellowish ripples that instantly engulfed and obliterated half of the phantoms. Only a dozen of the fastest-flying phantom figures broke through hundreds of feet into the void, then vanished with a flash of light, leaving behind just one that reformed into the black-armored man. Yet, upon turning his head to gaze at the terrifying scene of the massive flesh palm descending, his face instantly darkened with serious concern. At that moment, the two yellow clouds on the opposite side shifted slightly and retracted, once again transforming into two large bat wings. The giant sheep-like creature reappeared, bending its legs and preparing to leap directly toward the man. With its immense body, even a simple movement would press down upon him as if a mountain itself were bearing down. The black-armored man was startled, hesitating to meet the charge head-on, and instead flickered his form, generating hundreds of phantom figures once more, continuously maneuvering with both hands, driving the lightning and flames in constant motion. Though it appeared he was gradually gaining the upper hand, he still avoided suffering any serious setbacks. At the same time, Qinglong Shangren frowned, his stern expression flashing briefly before he flicked his hands, summoning two jade-colored flying swords—one inscribed with two serpentine dragons, the other with a resplendent peacock. With a swift wrist motion, both swords emitted clear, resonant cries and rose into the air, spiraling upward before one transformed into the shimmering forms of two jade dragons, while the other, radiating a golden glow, gave rise to a golden phoenix phantom. Under Qinglong Shangren's incantation, the two dragon phantoms and the peacock phantom surged forth, their light trails blazing, directly charging toward the black-armored warrior. Clearly, this esteemed senior elder of Yitian City had resolved to leverage the formidable power of the Héxī Beasts to decisively eliminate the black-armored warrior right here. As long as this most accomplished magus could be vanquished, even with two additional mysterious magus joining the fray, the battle would still be poised for victory. The black-armored giant was naturally furious, yet under the threat of the colossal beast, he could do little to hinder Qinglong Shangren at first—on the contrary, the constant attacks from the latter kept him in peril, time and again. As Qinglong Shangren rejoiced while the black-armored giant was forced to retreat, his voice thundering with rage, a sudden surge of astonishingly fierce and deadly qi erupted from the direction of the Muge Sea—thousands of such waves rising in a flash. The once pitch-black Muge Sea had instantly turned a deep, vivid crimson! Amidst the roaring gusts, a column of Muge army, enveloped in eerie bloodlight, emerged steadily and calmly from the sea. Each soldier radiated an appalling deathly aura, covered in crimson spiritual patterns across their bodies, their faces expressionless, yet their forms slightly blurred—like spectral warriors just stepping out of the Underworld. "Hah! See how you still dare to boast of your might, beast!" the commander exclaimed. "Quick—activate the Blood-Ming Guards! Set up the Blood-Ming Array and trap this combined-spirit beast and this man alive within it!" Jia Lun, launch the assault! Seeing this army radiating a power vastly different from that of ordinary demonic forces, the black-armored warrior could not help but beam with excitement and immediately issued two clear commands. Upon hearing the black-armored warrior's orders, the unit known as the "Blood-Transforming冥 Wardens," under the commanding cry of their leading tall demon general, began to disperse—each soldier's form dissolving into vast swaths of blood clouds, rolling forward in a surge. In just a few flashes, the colossal beasts, the Green Dragon Master, and even the black-armored warrior himself were engulfed within. It was precisely those War-Mages of Jala who had remained unseen since the beginning of the great war! These War-Mages, who had been concealed throughout the conflict, had used secret arts to transform themselves into lower-tier beasts, blending seamlessly into the ranks of the beast army. Now, having silently advanced until they were mere steps from the city walls, they suddenly revealed themselves and launched a fierce assault upon the city upon the thunderous command of the black-armored warrior. Two of the three monstrous heads among these War-Mages unleashed fiery balls, wind blades, and various attacks, while six of their arms were equipped with heavy weapons—massive hammers, spear points, and others—swirling in dazzling, blinding arcs of piercing attacks, delivering a relentless barrage against the city's defenses. Though the silver light shield had proven remarkably effective, it had already begun to tremble under the initial onslaught from the magical forces. Now, subjected to a concentrated assault from the Jala War-Mages, it finally cracked at several points, shattering with sharp, resonant sounds. The Jala War-Mages immediately surged forward, their fierce expressions fixed upon the human defenders atop the city walls, unleashing a relentless wave of deadly attacks. How could these human force-attendants and mid-to-lower level cultivators possibly stand against such a host of beasts? In an instant, they were overwhelmed with cries of terror, retreating in fear. Even some high-level cultivators leading the charge, who attempted to advance and block the onslaught, fell swiftly and perished under the combined assault of just a few Jialun War Beasts. The fortified positions that had been breached were instantly thrown into chaos. Observing this scene, human defenders stationed elsewhere also suffered a sharp decline in morale, each one pale with alarm.
