Chapter 2200: The Young Girl in the Silk Robe

Back to Chapter List
"Yes, Madam Zhu!" The green-robed young lady, having heard that Han Li had concealed his cultivation level, had briefly been startled, but upon hearing the woman's words, her initial hesitation vanished. She bowed respectfully, murmured her agreement, and then silently stepped out of the second floor chamber. "Please follow me, Master. As a guest of the Magistrate's rank, you will no longer be received by a substitute. You will be personally welcomed by the lady herself." The woman said calmly, then gently shook her sleeve toward the staircase leading to the third floor. Instantly, the space ahead shimmered with golden light, and a wave of energy spread out, as if a seal had been suddenly lifted. At the very moment the seal was broken, a gray symbol shot forth from the woman's sleeve, vanishing swiftly into the void. Han Li said nothing, merely nodded, and followed the woman up the stairs. On the third floor lay a magnificent and opulently furnished hall. In the center stood a translucent white jade offering table, upon which several items resembling the Bagua and divination tablets were arranged. Beside it, a delicate, compact bronze incense burner emitted a steady stream of white vapor, filling the entire room with the fragrance of sandalwood. Behind the table sat a young woman in yellow robes, remarkably beautiful, seated calmly in a large chair, gently playing with a jade fan about the size of her palm. On either side of the hall, there were four men and four women—four young members of the magical race dressed as servants. The men were tall and distinguished, the women petite and graceful, all standing with respectful demeanor. Remarkably, each of them had attained the stage of Spiritual Formation. Yet the woman showed no intention of pausing, simply leading Han Li directly up the stairs to the fourth floor. As soon as the woman and Han Li appeared, the group of yellow-robed attendants rose simultaneously and bowed respectfully from a distance. The woman, however, merely waved her hand without turning around, and only then did the yellow-robed woman and her companions return to their original seated positions. Han Li's steps paused slightly as his gaze swept over the three figures, his face revealing a subtle expression of surprise. In terms of demeanor and appearance, anyone would surely assume that this yellow-robed young lady was the "lady" of Guangyuan Hall—how could one imagine she was merely a stand-in? With this thought in mind, and having conducted prior investigations into Guangyuan Hall, Han Li found himself increasingly curious about the actual "lady" herself. After a short while, Han Li finally followed the woman to the fourth floor of the pavilion. As soon as he entered this level, Han Li took in his surroundings with a quick glance, and immediately expressed astonishment. It wasn't the arrangement that seemed unusual, but rather the fact that everything he saw was strikingly similar to that of a typical rural farmhouse. A modest thatched cottage stood not far ahead, with a few simple tables and chairs inside, and an old wooden bed, still bearing a coarse cotton quilt. In front of the thatched hut, several bundles of straw and a spinning wheel were arranged on the open ground. Behind the spinning wheel sat a slender woman dressed in coarse hemp robes, seated on a low wooden stool, intently operating the device. Rolls of hemp cloth flowed steadily from the wheel and piled neatly to one side. Han Li's divine awareness instantly swept over the young woman, and a look of surprise flickered across his face. Though the woman's cultivation level was not particularly high—she had only just entered the Huashen stage—when Han Li's consciousness tried to probe further, she was suddenly pushed gently back by an invisible force, preventing him from approaching any closer. This surprised Han Li, who then realized that the woman likely possessed some unique protective artifact that enabled her to autonomously repel his spiritual examination. The woman had quietly moved to stand beside the young woman in the hemp robes, remaining silent and undisturbed. Han Li halted his steps and stood still at the staircase, gazing calmly at the movements of the young woman in her coarse robe. At this point, he had clearly seen the half-lowered face of the girl—her features were ordinary, quite unremarkable. Not exactly extraordinary, though—what stood out was that her forehead appeared slightly broader than that of most people, and her focused seated posture gave off an unusually comfortable impression. As he carefully observed the young woman in her linen garments, he silently assessed her. Her weaving movements were exceptionally swift and skillful, and within just one cup of tea's time, she had completely consumed all the coarse hemp from the spinning wheel. When the final piece of coarse hemp cloth dropped steadily from the wheel, the girl exhaled softly, surveyed the large pile of linen on the ground, and smiled with a touch of satisfaction. Then, turning her gaze toward the woman standing beside her, she said with a slight apology, "Madam Zhu, I'm sorry—once again, I've kept you waiting so long." The girl's voice wasn't particularly melodious, yet it possessed a subtle magnetism that immediately drew one in and held them deeply captivated. "Madam, please rest assured—I haven't waited long. In fact, I must beg your pardon for having brought the guests here without your explicit consent." Facing the young, cloaked girl whose cultivation was far below her own, the woman displayed an unusually respectful demeanor, even adopting the posture of a servant. Han Li was struck by this scene, and upon closer inspection, he found himself murmuring to himself—could it be that the girl herself was an incarnation of a magical race's sage ancestor? "Since Aunt Zhu has brought someone to see me, they must surely be a distinguished guest. This is my younger sister, Lan Ying. May I know your name, sir?" The cloaked girl smiled gently and then turned with composed grace to ask. "My name is Han. Madam, you are the mistress of Guangyuan Stalls—this is indeed more surprising than I had expected." "Is it possible, Brother Han, that you find my sister unworthy to serve as mistress of Guangyuan Stalls?" The young lady with the plain robe smiled gently, her lips curling slightly. "As for the substitute beneath us—both in cultivation level and appearance—she seems more like the 'lady' of Guangyuan Pavilion than not. Still, a substitute is merely a substitute. No matter how similar she may be, she won't be of any real assistance to me." Han Li didn't hesitate, simply stating his thoughts plainly. "Brother Han, you're mistaken. My maid stationed on the third floor isn't merely a figurehead. She's capable of handling ordinary guests' requests on a regular basis. Of course, for a guest of your caliber, she finds herself somewhat overwhelmed." The young lady replied with a light laugh. "Ah, so it is. It seems the Pavilion's esteemed reputation has indeed been built in large part by this maid." Han Li chuckled, neither confirming nor denying. "My actions today are truly driven by necessity. After all, the typical guests she could handle were numerous, but truly distinguished patrons who met her standards were few—Han, in fact, was only the third such guest I've encountered this year. Then, please, Han, take a seat. We can discuss matters at length once you're settled. As long as you're willing to pay a sufficient price, I am certain we can leave you fully satisfied." The young girl nodded gracefully and invited Han to sit as well. Han glanced around the room, then with a single hand gesture, a worn chair shot through the air without a breeze and landed steadily before him. With a smooth motion, he settled himself directly across from the young girl. "Han has made it all the way here, surely he must have some familiarity with our hall. However, by custom, we still wish to reiterate the rules in the presence of a distinguished guest. I hope you won't mind." The young girl said with a composed tone. "I've only recently arrived at Blue Cascade Lake, and thus, my knowledge of your hall remains rather limited." It would be most convenient if the Blue Fairy could explain in detail. Han Li replied with no hesitation. "Our hall, in a sense, functions like a reliable information source—our role is to provide updates and intelligence, rather than directly intervene in guests' affairs. Though we may not be fully aware of every event throughout the Sacred Realm, we certainly possess extensive knowledge of significant and confidential matters. Moreover, our successive masters have long been skilled in divination. Even without access to certain specific information we may not hold, we can still offer guests some insightful divination services. Since divination comes at a considerable cost—often taking a toll on one's lifespan—the price is truly substantial. Generally, we do not proactively recommend divination to our guests. Additionally, once a guest receives a satisfactory answer from us, they are bound to keep that information confidential. Should they reveal it to others, they will be placed on our list of less favored clients and will no longer receive our services. Besides these points, all the other regulations are rather trivial, and I'm certain Friend Han won't deliberately violate them. Then, Friend, is there anything else that's unclear?" The young girl in the plain robe spoke one by one, steadily gazing at Han Li's face and gently pressing a final question. "Yes, these are quite similar to what I had previously known. I only wish to know how many of your esteemed guests, upon visiting your hall, have truly been satisfied and returned with a favorable impression." Han Li's brow furrowed slightly at the young girl's words, but soon settled into a composed expression as he countered with a question. "I'm not very familiar with the situation of your hall in the past, but since I have been in charge of Guangyuan Hall, I haven't yet had a single guest leave disappointed." A touch of pride flashed in Lan Ying's eyes as she replied calmly. "Never once has a guest been disappointed? It seems your hall truly possesses remarkable capabilities. Then, I am at ease. Even Lin Han, upon hearing the young lady's reply, was momentarily taken aback, yet on the surface he only nodded slightly, remaining composed and said, "Since your esteemed friend has no further questions or concerns about this hall, now you may state what you wish to know. The hall will charge you a certain fee, depending on the rarity and value of the information." The young lady's expression grew serious at once. "I would like to know precisely how to obtain a sufficient quantity of upper-grade Blood-Tooth Rice from Blue Falls City in a single visit!" Lin Han finally spoke without hesitation, asking directly and clearly. "Blood-Tooth Rice! Indeed, your esteemed friend is interested in acquiring this information." The young lady smiled warmly, her expression relaxing. "Is there anything unusual about this, Lin?" Lin Han's eyes flashed with subtle brilliance as he calmly asked. "Not at all. You need not be concerned." To be honest, among our guests at Guangyuanzhi, out of every ten, there are often two or three who specifically come to inquire about such news. We certainly have the relevant information on file! Though we've received many inquiries, the price for this particular piece of news remains quite high." The young woman with the flowing robe spoke with a gentle smile.
