Two Qin soldiers immediately came forward to pull the beggar, but they couldn't move him at all. Qin Shi Huang was furious—his own two soldiers couldn't even hold a beggar, let alone make him look respectable. He roared, "Quick! Execute this beggar right here, right now!" Qin Shi Huang's orders were royal decrees. The two soldiers each held a large axe and charged at the beggar, but the beggar was remarkably agile—dodging, weaving, leaping up and down, shifting left and right—so that the blades only struck empty air. Qin Shi Huang grew so angry he shouted and thundered at the other Qin soldiers, "Shoot him to death with arrows!" "Oh no! The beggar is surely doomed!" both Zhang Yuping and the Empress Li were deeply worried about his fate. Yet, as thousands of arrows rained down upon him, the beggar neither dodged nor moved. Suddenly, from his waist, he drew a golden shield, which clanged and resonated with a loud sound. The arrows fell all around the shield, landing in a thick layer on the ground. "Use fire arrows!"
"I simply can't believe this beggar has any extraordinary talent!" Qin Shi Huang detested it when someone embarrassed him face-to-face, especially when they challenged his dignity—such incidents often ended in tragedy. Under his rule, countless individuals had faced such fates. Indeed, the rockets soared toward him, yet the beggar remained calm. He roared, "Luminous Dragon Pearl—drawn forth!" Instantly, a colossal dragon materialized in the sky and descended, sweeping past with a thunderous roar. The winds and clouds shifted, the very heavens trembled. Qin Shi Huang had never witnessed such a spectacle. To him, standing before the assembled crowd, he considered himself the sovereign, the true emperor—his authority derived from heaven, as inscribed on the Seal of the Realm: "He who is entrusted by heaven shall live in enduring prosperity." He believed himself to be the genuine celestial dragon, destined to assist him. Yet, when the dragon circled around Gao Liang instead of descending upon him, Qin Shi Huang was stunned. He immediately shouted, "Shoot! Shoot now!"
"A million rockets surged forth, and the water dragon roared in response. From its mouth, it spewed a torrent of water that poured straight down from the sky, instantly extinguishing the flames of the rockets. 'Fire Dragon Pearl! Drawn forth!' cried the beggar. Suddenly, a red fire dragon emerged and danced through the air. As the rockets continued to rain down, the dragon had already opened its mouth and swallowed them all, absorbing them completely. Then, it exhaled, transforming the rockets into liquid. This transformation revealed just how scorching the dragon's internal temperature was—reaching even the boiling point of iron. 'Ah! Ah! Heaven's sake! Impossible! Impossible!' Qin Shi Huang nearly collapsed, fortunately being steadied by several Qin soldiers. Li Si was in awe, suddenly exclaiming, 'Gao Liang! Gao Liang! Remarkable! Remarkable!' Then, turning to Qin Shi Huang, he shouted, 'Your Majesty! That is Gao Liang! It is Gao Liang! Indeed! It must be!'
"Qin Shi Huang suddenly collapsed to the ground, recognizing that the person before him—endowed with celestial abilities—was Gao Liang. "I've lost! I've lost!" Qin Shi Huang cried, his former pride and unrivaled confidence completely gone. Meanwhile, Zhang Yuping gasped, "Husband! I can't believe it! You're still alive! Truly, heaven has protected you!" Li Fei folded her hands and addressed the heavens, "Thank you, heaven! For allowing this outstanding man to live, and for revealing his great abilities!" Indeed, it was Gao Liang—once a beggar, he had shaved off his beard and removed his outer garment, now dressed in an unconventional style. "What is he wearing?" Li Fei asked Zhang Yuping. "A suit," Zhang Yuping replied. "So handsome! So cool!" Li Fei exclaimed in admiration.
The qixue suit was entirely new to the Qin Dynasty. Li Fei, the princess from Goryeo, stared in wide-eyed astonishment at Gao Liang, who was both handsome and noble in appearance. Qin Shi Huang, Li Si, and the other ministers were all deeply impressed—never had they imagined that this humble beggar possessed such extraordinary talents. Indeed, he could summon winds and rain at will, with the great fire dragon and water dragon flanking him on either side, radiating an unparalleled splendor. "Emperor Shi Huang! Your bet from just now must be fulfilled!" Gao Liang smiled. "Oh? Oh?" Qin Shi Huang's face remained expressionless—truly, he had never expected to find himself completely defeated. At this moment, Li Si, with a sense of helplessness, announced to the entire assembly a news that left both Qin Shi Huang and the ministers deeply humbled: in front of all the people, Qin Shi Huang had personally handed over the Imperial Seal to Gao Liang, and had also surrendered all three thousand noble consorts from the Xianyang Palace and the ten thousand beauties from the A Fang Palace.
Gao Liang took the jade seal personally handed to him by Emperor Qin, his face glowing with a smile of success. Li Fei and Zhang Yuping stepped closer, gazing in awe at the imperial treasure—the jade seal. Without the empire and its beauty, Emperor Qin was nothing; his pursuit of the elixir of immortality had been in vain! Today, just one day before the day when Emperor Qin ascended the celestial platform to offer sacrifices to heaven and earth, he had lost the entire empire—and over 13,000 of his noble consorts. For an emperor who had once ruled supreme and been unparalleled in his might, this was indeed the greatest failure. Under the collective gaze of the crowd, Gao Liang held the imperial jade seal aloft, and immediately, Emperor Qin, Li Si, and all the ministers fell to their knees, even Li Fei and Zhang Yuping knelt down. Everyone exclaimed, "The sovereign of the Great Qin! Please represent heaven and govern this land!"
"Nodding with confidence, Li Si, Zhao Gao, and the other ministers and officials on their knees before him, High Light observed the scene with wise eyes. At this moment, his younger brothers had arrived—Zhao Erhu, Zeng Erniu, and several others—seeing their elder so impressive, even surpassing Emperor Qin Shi Huang, they immediately raised their thumbs in admiration and shouted to High Light, 'Boss! The King is back! We pledge our lives to serve the new sovereign!' 'Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!' Many others joined in. Even Emperor Qin Shi Huang himself joined the chorus. Upon ascending the throne, High Light wore the imperial dragon robe specially crafted by the State of Qin, while Zhang Yuping and Li Fei wore elegant court attire. High Light then issued an edict through Li Si, announcing: 'Reduce taxes, promote recovery and rejuvenation; combat corrupt officials, abolish harsh punishments, and release the wrongly accused—totaling no fewer than twelve major reforms. These measures have deeply resonated with the people and gained widespread public support. Immediately, the common people came to pay homage, and all nations looked upon him with admiration."
Gao Liang had become the true ruler of the state, yet his journey to Qin was not to become emperor—rather, he had been commissioned by the Heavenly Emperor to seek the suitable material for the jade seal. Moreover, with his mastery of the alchemical arts, Gao Liang now aspired to perfect the elixir of immortality. Nevertheless, now that he had ascended as the sovereign of Qin, it was a welcome development—he could now experience the life of an emperor firsthand.
"Lady Li!" Gao Liang called to her.
"Your servant, Your Majesty!" Lady Li had addressed him as her subordinate, which both surprised and delighted Gao Liang. He genuinely disliked imposing on any beautiful woman unless she willingly chose to do so.
While reviewing the official reports from the seventy-two prefectures of the Great State of Qin in the Great Hall of the Buddha, Gao Liang found them overwhelmingly positive—almost entirely reporting good news with little mention of difficulties. This left him deeply dissatisfied. When he first entered Qin from Zhao, he had encountered widespread famine, and had even distributed rice and soup along the way to alleviate suffering. Now, these reports claimed that the people were well-fed and secure—how could that
The elder officials are keen to reflect the actual situation—specifically, whether their twelve reform measures have been effectively implemented. Gao Liang meticulously annotated each memorial with: "Please report the facts as they are; if they fall short, immediate removal and investigation will follow!" These annotations became increasingly burdensome, so he asked his nearby concubine, Li Fei, to assist.
In the hall, the civil and military officials had all retired.
Zhang Yuping had gone out to enjoy a stroll outside the Xianyang Palace, while Gao Liang and Li Fei remained within the palace to handle official affairs.
Li Fei's handwriting was delicate and refined, whereas Gao Liang's was vigorous and grand, flowing like dragons and phoenixes in motion.
At that moment, Li Fei wore Zhang Yuping's favorite, close-fitting lotus-patterned qipao, looking exceptionally graceful.
Especially her full, plump chest, glowing with a bright luminosity, it was easy to notice. The empress li's neckline was wide and low, making her two large white rabbits easily visible. Good heavens, the empress li's white rabbits were as pure as fresh milk. When the empress li sat beside Gaoqing, reviewing official documents, her qipao opened at the hem, revealing her snow-white, long, graceful legs in full view. Gaoqing's eyes traced from the refined jade feet, up the calves, the thighs, all the way to the base. The empress li's rounded hips, flat abdomen, well-defined bust, vividly red lips, and delicate contours created a body that was perfectly harmonious throughout—many of her features embodied the golden ratio.
