Office Scene: The Question
Miss Iron’s office was a small room of just over ten square meters. Aside from an office desk and a chair, there was only one other piece of furniture—a single bed that she used for resting.
Lü Yun followed Miss Iron in, his heart pounding with nervousness. He quickly took in the scene. Fortunately, he saw no staff or classroom tools—no sticks or weapons—that might have signaled danger. This gave him a measure of peace.
Miss Iron sat down in her chair and simply stared at Lü Yun, neither speaking nor showing any sign of movement. Her expression remained completely blank—cold, steady, as if she were an ancient statue of a woman sitting quietly.
Lü Yun felt his insides tremble under the weight of that gaze. What on earth was she up to? Was she going to just keep staring until the end of class?
“Teacher,” Lü Yun began, “I’m sorry—I really did make a mistake. But I didn’t mean it intentionally… I just…” He trailed off, unable to find words. After a long silence, he felt his forehead glisten with cold sweat. He wanted to explain, but he couldn’t think of anything solid enough to say.
“How old are you, Lü Yun?” Miss Iron asked, her expression unchanged.
Lü Yun breathed out a steady stream of relief—anytime she spoke, things started to look manageable—and answered quickly: “I’m thirteen… half.”
Miss Iron gave a cold smile and stood up, pouring herself a cup of water. As she sipped it, she said: “I heard that your parents have both passed away…”
Lü Yun nodded eagerly. “Yes. I didn’t expect you to know about my family background. Since childhood, I’ve been taken in by the Land Feng elder—my foster father. When I was two years old, both my parents died in an accident. Ever since then, I’ve been raised by neighbors.” He blinked and wiped a few clear tears from his cheeks.
“Given that you've grown up with such kind neighbors,” Miss Iron continued, “why haven’t you taken the time to study? During class yesterday, you appeared distracted—your face had such an awkward, embarrassed smile, one that doesn't seem fitting for someone your age.” She set her cup down on the desk with a soft *clink*, and the water spilled over the edge, droplets cascading steadily from the rim.
“Teacher,” Lü Yun said quickly, “I’m truly sorry. From now on, I’ll pay more attention in class and work hard to study.” He added several reassurances, hoping that with enough soft words, today’s situation would pass without further issue.
But Miss Iron remained unmoved. She stared at him coldly and then said with a faint huff: “Now tell me honestly—aren’t you actually… not quite a man?”
Huh?
How many thirteen-year-old boys are still completely untouched in matters of the heart, especially in today’s world?
Once someone asked:
“What is a boy’s first experience?”
Answer: *His hand*—self-pleasing while scrolling or watching videos.
Then: *Which hand?*
Answer: The left hand.
Why? Because when he's watching movies on the screen, his right hand holds the mouse and keyboard, so only the left hand is free to use.
The person asking was utterly stunned—stunned enough that they reportedly dropped their coffee in surprise!
In Lü Yun’s mind, having accidentally touched Miss Iron’s chest should have triggered a full-on scolding—or even physical discipline (don’t tell me it's legally protected in rural middle schools; most students only consider themselves fortunate if teachers don’t beat them). Yet here he was, being asked about his very identity—his gender.
As a role model teacher, Miss Iron’s question felt utterly out of place. Only she could have imagined such an approach.
Lü Yun didn’t know what to make of it, so he hesitated, unable to answer boldly.
“Did you hear me asking you?” Miss Iron insisted, her tone no longer patient.
Lü Yun looked up, rubbed his nose, and finally said: “No… not yet.”
Miss Iron nodded slowly—her expression now fully convinced—and glanced at him with a look of quiet surprise. “Tell me then—who was the first person you gave this to?”
“This… this is difficult,” Lü Yun replied, growing more uneasy by the minute. He found Miss Iron’s questions increasingly unusual—lacking the warmth and grace expected of a teacher.
“What's so hard about it? Just answer what I ask. Nothing else matters.” She narrowed her eyes again, now clearly signaling that if he didn’t speak truthfully, she would take action.
Lü Yun felt pressed under pressure—he thought this was all her idea, after all. He just hoped she wouldn't regret asking.
With a small smile playing at the corner of his lips, Lü Yun pretended to be afraid and said softly: “Teacher, please don’t get angry.”
“Then say it,” Miss Iron replied, now slightly flushed.
Lü Yun still hesitated. “Are you really not going to get angry?”
“Well, what are you waiting for? I’ve already told you—I won’t get angry. If you keep stalling, I’ll be furious and there will be serious consequences.”
After a long pause—like struggling to push through a heavy door—Lü Yun finally blushed and said, “It was… the Teacher…”
“Oh!” Miss Iron gasped. Her mouth opened wide enough to swallow a large bun.
At the very moment she called out, Lü Yun quickly stepped back, shielding his face with both hands. “Teacher—it was *you* who asked me! I told you the truth—please don’t be angry.”
Miss Iron stared at him in silence for several moments. Her normally smooth, wrinkle-free complexion now flushed deeply, like morning sunlight breaking through the clouds—a bright, warm glow spreading across her cheeks.
“You… you dare to treat me as…” She couldn't quite bring herself to say it out loud. Her eyes burned with both anger and embarrassment, fixed tightly on Lü Yun’s face, as if checking whether he had lied.
Lü Yun held his lips closed tight, his face pale—like a man facing an angry beast ready to pounce. Of course, all of these expressions were acts. After all, Miss Iron had already touched him, so why not? She could now go on and punish him—but at least he’d taken the first step.
“Go ahead,” Miss Iron said finally, after a long sigh. She pointed to the bed.
Lü Yun looked at her with puzzled eyes and asked softly: “Teacher… are you really not angry?”
Miss Iron shook her head gently and added: “I promised you—I won’t be annoyed as long as you tell me the truth. Please sit.”
Lü Yun sat down on the bed, his hands trembling slightly. Though he was usually bold and always managed to get a few advantages, deep down he still respected Miss Iron’s reputation in the school—her methods were well-known among students and staff alike.
“Now,” Miss Iron said, standing up and closing the office door softly, “tell me exactly—why did you see me as… someone special?” She approached him slowly, her tone now slightly shy.
Lü Yun thought hard about what Miss Iron’s real purpose might be. But no matter how he tried to piece it together, he couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation. He lowered his head and said: “I simply noticed that you had such a refined, mature charm—different from the younger teachers at school. Your presence carried an elegance that others just didn’t have… so…”
“So what?” Miss Iron pressed gently.
