Chapter 1213: Responding
Lu Yun had no idea what the headmaster had in mind. However, when he heard that the school was going to contract the convenience store to the canteen, he was quietly surprised. If that were true, then his plans would come to nothing. He had no direct connection with the headmaster, and unless something changed—say, after Liu Yun took over the canteen and he could then move in on her—there seemed to be little he could do. In that case, there would surely be numerous complications along the way. Observing the headmaster’s confident smile, Lu Yun felt certain that he wasn’t thinking of any particularly good plans.
"Lu Yun," the headmaster smiled, "class is about to start. You should head back to your classroom now." At the moment, he was in high spirits. Having successfully managed to secure a widow, he now expected a young and attractive Liu Yun to join him—after all, for someone like him, having women around was all that truly mattered.
Smiling, Lu Yun walked toward the convenience store and said, "Principal, I'll go now. Believe me, I haven't stolen anything."
The principal nodded seriously and said, "I know that. If you'd taken even a little advantage, you wouldn't have helped us catch the thief who stole the sports equipment. I'll talk to the deputy principal soon and give you some recognition or reward. But don't be too proud—keep improving, and don't let our school down."
Half of this was said to Lu Yun, while the other half was directed at the middle-aged bald man. How could he say that our students' standards are low? That's clearly putting my face on the line. As for this convenience store—you're out of luck.
Lu Yun stepped out of the convenience store and didn't head straight to the classroom. Instead, he waited at a spot closer to the school gate for Principal Wang, regardless of whether or not Principal Wang truly intended to assign the convenience store to the canteen. Lu Yun wanted to make a personal effort to secure the convenience store for himself. A short while later, Principal Wang emerged from the convenience store with a spring in his step, and Lu Yun hurried over to greet him.
"Hey, Lu Yun, why aren't you off to class yet? Skipping classes isn't the behavior of a good student," Principal Wang smiled warmly.
"Ah, thank you so much, Principal Wang, for resolving such a big issue for me. If that person had kept pursuing me, I'd have no chance of explaining myself, no matter how many mouths I had." Lu Yun's face was filled with humble smiles, and his tone was full of appreciation.
Wang, the headmaster, was quite pleased. Though she hadn't personally interacted much with Lu Yun, she knew well that Lu Yun was a born troublemaker—always causing mischief, leaving every teacher utterly exasperated. Now, seeing Lu Yun bowing and scraping so formally to her, she felt a surge of pride, truly a case of the little person achieving success. By now, she was undoubtedly overflowing with self-importance, feeling like a queen. Just as she was about to deliver a formal lecture to Lu Yun, she suddenly noticed him pulling out a cigarette from his pocket. At once, her expression turned stern, and she scolded, "Lu Yun! Given your young age, how come you've started smoking? Our school strictly prohibits students from smoking—didn't you know that? Do you think you're going to get disciplined for it?" A steady stream of reproaches poured out of her. Yet Lu Yun only smiled with a strange, composed air. "Headmaster," he said, "please don't be so upset. This is a special treat—something I don't usually share. I only offered it to you because you've done so much for me. I wouldn't have thought of giving it to you otherwise."
"Is this something ordinary? Wang President looked at Lu Yun in surprise, then at the cigarette in his hands, furrowing his brows, "What's unusual about this cigarette?" Lu Yun suddenly looked unusually embarrassed, stammering for a while without being able to explain anything. Wang President's brow grew even more furrowed; the more Lu Yun remained silent, the more convinced he became that there was something strange about the cigarette. Growing impatient, he finally snapped, "Lu Yun, I know how busy I've been today and haven't had time to chat with you. Well, then, just throw this cigarette away and go back to your classroom to prepare for class." Saying this, Wang President prepared to rush off. "Oh, Wang President," Lu Yun interjected, "but just don't say I'm not serious about my duties... Ah, you've gone already—didn't I just waste my time?"
Lu Yun had just come up with the plan. Since he didn't know the roots of the convenience store matter, he'd have to pry it out of Wang's school principal. This man is a smooth operator—ever since he took over, he's been unkind to Liu's wife. Lu Yun could see his soft spot, and now, with the honeysuckle powder in his cigarette, he had a solid advantage. He'd treat the principal like a living horse, even if he were to fall ill—should the principal develop a smoking habit, the convenience store issue would surely resolve itself. Lu Yun didn't believe Wang's principal could be any harder to handle than the village secretary back in his own village. So, as soon as he formulated this idea, he immediately set out to implement it. Wang's principal was quite curious and, upon hearing Lu Yun's words, nodded promptly. "Very well," he said, "I won't hold it against you. But from now on, you must give up smoking. Your parents have worked so hard to send you to school—don't let them down."
Lu Yun nodded eagerly, saying, "Director Wang, this smoke helps men feel vigorous and powerful in that regard—just as effective as the indestructible spear."
"What?" Director Wang was instantly startled. Though he understood Lu Yun's meaning, as the head of the school, he had to uphold his dignity and immediately pretended not to grasp what Lu Yun had said, asking, "Which aspect are you referring to? You're speaking so oddly—do you have some secret intentions you'd rather keep hidden?"
Lu Yun silently scolded himself in his mind, yet maintained a warm smile, saying, "Director Wang, please don't misunderstand. You've just done me a great favor, and I simply wanted to express my gratitude."
"What exactly do you mean?" Director Wang asked, his face serious, while already deeply curious about the purpose of the cigarette Lu Yun was holding.
This time, Lu Yun decided to be straightforward, saying, "Director, after smoking this, men feel especially bold and vigorous when engaging in that kind of activity with women."
"Now Wang Director is truly convinced of Lu Yun's words, though one thing still puzzles him—how could a simple cigarette have such an effect? Could there be something unusual about the cigarette itself?" "Lu Yun, you're so young, yet you're already thinking about such things. That's no good sign at all. I'm going to summon your parents to the school tomorrow and see how they're raising you. It's astonishing that such a young student would say something so bold, even holding a cigarette to frame me like this. This matter can't be brushed off. Remember to call your parents in tomorrow, and also your homeroom teacher. They're simply irresponsible—how can they be unaware that their students are developing such unseemly thoughts?" Wang Director grew more and more animated as he spoke, his gaze fixed firmly on the cigarette in Lu Yun's hand. If Lu Yun's words were true, then after smoking this cigarette, he would surely have stood tall and impressive on a woman's abdomen. But how could such a thing exist in Lu Yun, a mere student?
"President Wang, you said you wouldn't scold me. Then...," Lu Yun looked at President Wang, pleading to defend himself. Hmm... President Wang paused, at a loss for words.
