Chapter Seventy-Eight: Slain in the Forest

"All right?" As soon as Han Li stepped out of the room, Li Feiyu immediately urged him. Han Li didn't give Li Feiyu a pleasant look; he glared at him and then walked toward a smaller room, speaking coldly through the closed door: "Qu Hun, come out—your help is needed tonight." Before Han Li had finished speaking, the wooden door gave way with a loud "thud," as if it had been made of paper, shattering into fragments. Amidst the swirling wood shavings, a massive figure emerged slowly from within. Li Feiyu's eyes widened in astonishment. He stared at the towering figure, whose presence seemed that of a demon, yet whose face remained hidden beneath a cloak. He was motionless, stunned. The giant moved silently to Han Li's back. "Let's go!" Han Li said with a smile—this time, it was he who urged the dazed Li Feiyu. "Oh!" Li Feiyu finally regained his composure. He glanced at Han Li, then at the towering man, and then closed his mouth firmly, saying nothing as he led the way out of the valley. Han Li looked at Li Feiyu's back, smiled slightly, and then took a few quick steps to catch up with him. Qu Hun followed closely behind, never straying more than a step away. Han Li was deeply satisfied with Li Feiyu's tact—this mutual respect for each other's privacy had been the foundation of their close, trusted friendship. All three moved swiftly, and in a short while they reached the valley entrance. As Li Feiyu raised his foot to step into the woods, Han Li suddenly extended his right hand and firmly grasped his shoulder, preventing him from moving forward. "What's going on?" Li Feiyu asked, showing some impatience. After all, he was now quite anxious. "Someone's approaching—more than one person," Han Li said calmly. Li Feiyu was surprised and immediately focused his attention, listening intently. But after a long while, he heard nothing at all. He glanced at Han Li with a look of doubt, but the other remained calm and composed, offering no explanation. "You—" Just as Li began to speak, Han suddenly extended a finger to his lips, signaling him to be silent. Li furrowed his brows, though somewhat reluctant, and still habitually followed Han's gesture, refraining from speaking further. Not long after, Li's expression grew serious. He turned to look at Han with a sense of surprise, as he finally heard a multitude of footsteps resonating simultaneously outside the valley—truly, there were many people present. "Sun, there's a large bell near the edge of this forest, and a small path leading off from it. It seems this is exactly the Shen Shou Valley the deputy master mentioned." A strong voice came from the other side of the trees. "Yes, according to the map and the position of this bell, there's no doubt about it." You must remember this clearly—your lord has issued a death order: only the divine physician within the valley shall be captured alive; no one is to harm him in any way, or else they will be dealt with according to the guild's regulations. Understood? A sharper voice, reminiscent of a rooster crowing, issued the command. "Yes." "Yes."... A steady stream of affirmations rose, indicating no fewer than fifteen people, all with strong voices and evident martial prowess. "All except one in blue robes are elite members of the Wild Wolf Guild. The blue-robed official holds the rank of guardian of the guild, while the elite members are comparable to our inner hall disciples." Li Feiyu lowered his voice and leaned close to Han Li, gently explaining. Li Feiyu knew that his friend had always been indifferent to the status of the guild's rivals, so he did not pause to inquire why he had heard the footsteps so early. Instead, he directly outlined the identities of the opponents, hoping to ensure that Han Li remained alert and vigilant. Han Li listened carefully and immediately understood Li Feiyu's intention. He smiled gently, said nothing, but his expression suggested he was not particularly concerned. Li Feiyu, however, grew increasingly anxious. "With my current strength, I can handle that blue-robed enforcement officer alone, but if other enemies join him, I'll definitely be overwhelmed. I know you're full of clever ideas—please, tell me what you have in mind quickly! Otherwise, we'll be too late." Li Feiyu spoke softly yet rapidly, his tone urgent. The enemy forces had already entered the small grove and were now approaching Han Li and his companions. "How about we retreat first, and temporarily avoid the enemy's advance?" Li Feiyu proposed a reasonable plan, only to find that Han Li had no intention of adopting it. "Qu Hu, except for capturing that blue-robed officer, go and eliminate all the others in the grove." Han Li suddenly turned to the giant and issued his command with cold precision. "What?" Li Feiyu was slightly stunned upon hearing this. But before he could react, the massive man standing behind Han Li had already transformed into a rushing gale, sweeping deep into the forest. Instantly, from the dark woods, came the cries of distress and shouts of alarm from the members of the Wild Wolf Clan. "Ah!" "Ah!" "Who is it?" "Bad! Someone has attacked!" What... what kind of monster is this! Ah... "Run! Ah!" ... The cries of alarm and the sharp, desperate sounds from within the forest surged at first, then gradually faded, and soon after, the scene became utterly still. Li Feiyu stared at the forest, his face filled with disbelief, his breath coming in short, hesitant puffs.
