Chapter Two Hundred and Sixty-Nine: Blood Red

Back to Chapter List
"Does this thing intend to ensnare us all?" "Hmph!" Xuan Le said nothing, but instead raised his hand, launching seven or eight fire balls that shot through the dense web. With a series of "thuds," the web remained undamaged—no trace of charring was visible. This time, the others didn't look surprised, clearly expecting the web to be more resilient than expected. In an instant, several of the white spider's legs slightly bent, then snapped straight as it surged forward—directly toward Xuan Le. Xuan Le's expression darkened. He extended his hand, withdrew a yellow scroll, and pressed it firmly into the ground. The scroll instantly dissolved without a sound. At the same time, a massive stone spear, several feet in diameter, rose from the ground ahead, precisely piercing the spider's abdomen as it leaped into the air, pinning it firmly against the ceiling and preventing it from descending. "Excellent!" Qu Tianmeng exclaimed, his face bright with satisfaction. Then, a dark green leather satchel was thrown out, its opening precisely aligning with the spider at the ceiling, with a subtle glow emanating from within. At that moment, the spider trapped at the ceiling hissed and cried out several times, then folded several of its legs inward, just as it cradled the tip of the stone spear, and suddenly exerted great force. A loud, chaotic sound erupted as the stone tip shattered easily under the pressure, sending countless fragments cascading down. The now-liberated spirit beast landed gracefully upon the broken tip, its two smaller eyes glowing green, clearly agitated. It bent and then straightened its body, charging once more toward the monks. Just then, a surge of radiant light erupted violently from the satchel, sweeping the spider cleanly from the air into its interior, and then swiftly drawing it back with the speed of lightning—transforming the large creature into a small one and sealing it safely within the satchel. Han Li and the others were taken aback. This spider appeared so tenacious, yet it had been captured so easily—something truly hard to imagine. Lu Tianmeng himself was equally astonished. Though his "Day-Moon Satchel" had proven immensely powerful, having captured numerous beasts, it had been so smooth and seamless in securing this particular spider that he found it quite unexpected. Yet, as waves of exhilaration surged through him, he couldn't help but feel a surge of optimism. If he could tame such a powerful creature, his own strength would surely leap significantly. Reflecting on this, even though Lu Tianmeng was usually so composed, a visible smile now lit up his face. He eagerly reached out, waving his hand toward the green-skinned satchel, and instantly, the satchel drifted gently toward him under the watchful eyes of others. The other cultivators naturally understood the significance such a living beast held for the people of Lingshu Mountain, and thus expressed clear admiration and envy. However, just as this sentiment began to surface, the satchel suddenly paused mid-flight, hovering motionless in the air. Lü Tianmeng was startled and immediately summoned his inner power to forcibly retrieve the leather bag, but after several shakes, it still remained suspended in mid-air. Now, the onlookers around quickly realized something was amiss and became more cautious. The surface of the bag began to warp and distort, as though the beast within were causing disturbances—this unusual phenomenon lasted only a brief moment before suddenly restoring to a round, plump shape. Then, with a tremendous crash, the bag shattered into four fragments, and the white spider had somehow burst through the magical vessel, regaining its natural form. The once-constrained beast, now freed, appeared wildly agitated; its translucent, pristine body gradually turned red, radiating a terrifying crimson glow, and its sharp teeth continuously ground against each other, emitting a dreadful "crunching" sound. Seeing this, Lü Tianmeng and the others stepped back in solemn respect, retreating to create distance before launching a barrage of magical attacks. However, the red-spider's several claws swept side to side, rushing with lightning speed into the space between the two monks who had retreated the farthest. Two flashes of white light erupted—"puff, puff"—and the protective shields of the two monks were shattered by the front claws, their bodies severed right down the middle, instantly killing them. Among them was Zhong Wu, the awkward man, who had hoped that retreating farther would ensure his safety! Upon witnessing the sudden deaths of these two monks and the spider's swift, unexpected attack, the others gasped in shock and scattered even further, fearing they too would meet the same fate. But it was too late—the spider's body flickered and transformed into a streak of crimson light, shooting straight toward another monk from the Dao-Work Sect. This monk's face turned pale; he gritted his teeth and launched two black flying knives, then shot backward in a swift, powerful leap. Yet as the spider opened its mouth, a thick, white liquid jetted directly onto the flying blades, instantly rendering them ineffective and causing them to fall to the ground in dust. Then, with a powerful leap, it snapped the head of the cultivator from the knife-works guild member, spewing a geyser of blood from the now lifeless neck several feet high—sending everyone in shock. The others, including Han Li, could no longer hesitate. Immediately, a flurry of scrolls and artifacts were hurled toward the creature. However, the blood-spattered spider moved with the speed of the wind, and within the narrow cave, the trailing spells and objects could not keep up with its swift movements. In this brief span, two more cultivators were crushed beneath its fangs. Though one of them managed to summon a colorful handkerchief to shield himself, offering some resistance, it shattered moments later, the spider's claws and fangs proving exceptionally sharp—indeed, their hardness surpassed even that of top-tier artifacts. At this moment, only Lu Tianmeng, Xuan Le, and Han Li remained inside the cave, all three of them deeply shocked and furious. If they had been in an open area, these cultivators surely wouldn't have perished so easily—after all, with their flying vehicles, they could have at least delayed the attack for some time. With a loud "thud," the giant spider darted to Lu Tianmeng's side, its claw slicing through his protective shield and then severing him in half—only to be suddenly blocked by a dark, flat, circular object that appeared unexpectedly. This object resembled a small shield, but upon closer inspection, its surface was cracked into numerous patches, revealing itself to be an enormous turtle shell. The sharp claw merely left a shallow incision on it, with everything else intact—truly astonishing. Seeing no effect, the giant spider immediately abandoned Lu Tianmeng and, without hesitation, flashed across the cave once more, arriving at Han Li's side, where it swiftly bit him. Yet Han Li's expression remained cold as he swayed slightly, his form blurring momentarily before instantly vanishing at his original spot. Then, he reappeared somewhere about seven or eight zhang away, leaving the beast utterly stunned and rooted to the spot. Just this brief delay allowed Xuan Le's yellow small bell to catch up—its yellow glow flashing and expanding into a massive size, instantly encasing the beast once more and trapping it within. Han Li's black dragon-spear, arriving shortly after, circled cautiously outside the bell, wary of the beast breaking free again. Lü Tianmeng approached the bronze bell, glanced at it thoughtfully, then shook his head with an uneasy expression. "It's not good enough. I still don't feel confident. You keep using this bell to hold the beast in place for now. Give me some time to summon a divine artifact and completely eliminate this creature." Xuan Le frowned slightly upon hearing this, but said nothing, merely adopting a passive, accommodating demeanor. Han Li, meanwhile, glanced at the teleportation array and the tokens on the bones, pondered for a moment, then walked to an open space beside and sat cross-legged, as if the matter would now be handled entirely by the two of them. At that moment, Lü Tianmeng produced a scroll glowing with bright green light, folded it in his palms and slowly channeled spiritual energy into it. Clearly, a late Foundation-stage cultivator was far more efficient with artifact usage. In just a short while, he separated his hands, and a small, elegant green ruler shot out and spiraled around his head. "Ready?" he asked. "I'd like to release the beast now!" Xuan Le watched, controlling Xiao Zhong while seemingly concerned, and asked. "Rest assured, you may now pass on. This Great Translocation Scroll shall be mine!" Lu Tian Meng's eyes flashed, and suddenly his expression turned fierce. With a loud cry, the small ruler hovering above him burst forth with countless beams of light, dividing first into two, then into four, then into eight—within moments, hundreds of identical small rulers materialized, each emitting a resonant hum. Under Lu Tian Meng's command, the majority of the rulers crashed down densely upon Xuan Le, while a smaller group shot toward Han Li, who was seated in meditation. Yet beneath the ground, a sharp crack of earth splitting echoed, followed by a streak of crimson light slashing past beside him. Instantly, Lü Tianmeng's body was split in two and landed on the ground. The red light surged a certain distance before halting—revealing none other than the blood spider, which had somehow managed to free itself at an earlier time. (There's another chapter scheduled for tonight, though it'll take a bit longer to finish. Everyone can check it out tomorrow morning! Heh, didn't expect today to be so delayed again—now we're only left with staying up late and working overtime!)
