Chapter 390 The Vast City

返回章节列表
A moment later, the black shape gradually enlarged as it approached, growing larger and larger. Though still somewhat indistinct, its immense, column-like silhouette conveyed an overwhelming sense of grandeur and power. When Han Li flew closer, still in awe, he finally made out the city's general form. Indeed, it was a city—specifically, a supercity spanning the entire island. What truly astonished him, however, was that the city's core structure differed entirely from the ones he had seen before. Instead of being built on flat ground, it was constructed in a spiraling, concentric pattern upon the towering mountain at the heart of the island, rising like a colossal pillar into the clouds. Layer upon layer of buildings extended from the mountain's base, seamlessly merging with the island's edge and leaving scarcely any open spaces. There was no doubt—it was the largest city of Luan Xing Sea, Tianxing City. Gazing at the dense clusters of houses, each no larger than ants, rising into the sky, Han Li remained in awe for a long time. Only when the Shenfeng boat approached the island by fifty li did he regain his composure and slow down his flying法宝. For now, the sky around him was no longer occupied solely by him—faint glimmers of light began to appear at various distances, all heading toward the Tianxing City. Han Li silently admired, truly deserving of the title of Tianxing City—other cultivators had already been spotted so far away. After advancing another twenty or thirty li, the number of luminous trails in the sky grew significantly, and even large sea vessels began to appear below, cutting through the waves with the wind. What struck Han Li as even more astonishing was that some cultivators were not flying on their own法宝, but instead were sailing on small boats or riding low-tier spirit beasts, gliding across the sea. Shaking his head slightly, Han Li paused, felt a touch of sentiment, then transformed into a beam of white light and sped up. Soon, he reached the outskirts of Tianxing City. At this point, he realized that the city was enclosed by a towering stone wall stretching several dozen zhang high, running along the coastline. Beneath this endless wall, he could see no less than a dozen or so gateways of various sizes and shapes. There were docks specifically designed for ordinary sea vessels, harbors where various beasts could dwell, and of course, the most numerous were the city gates that a single cultivator could easily pass through—Francesca followed a streak of emerald light to one of the smaller city gates. Calling it small! Yet, upon arriving and glancing up at the towering gate that rose seven or eight zhang high, he couldn't help but chuckle softly at his own self-deprecating remark. Standing in front of him was a graceful young woman in green robes, clearly at the mid-jade foundation stage of cultivation. After a pleasant exchange with two white-robed cultivators stationed at the gate, she handed over several spiritual stones, received a blue ring from them, and casually slipped it onto her wrist before gracefully stepping inside. Han Li then approached Qu Hun calmly and steadily. "Both of you are visiting temporarily, or will you be residing here for the long term? If so—" "Hmm, you're a senior disciple! Welcome to Tianxing City. According to our city regulations, all senior disciples who have achieved the Jiedan stage may reside here at no cost for the long term—this identity ring is your proof of status, please keep it." A white-robed cultivator, who had barely blinked, had almost recited this phrase countless times before—only to have it interrupted by the other cultivator beside him, who immediately recognized Qu Hun's identity and gently pulled at his sleeve. Startled, the white-robed cultivator took a moment to re-examine Qu Hun, then quickly composed himself, offering a respectful bow and adjusting his words. He then produced a red ring from his sleeve and presented it. "This is my first visit to Tianxing City. What is this ring for?" Qu Hun asked, his voice slightly hoarse. "This is your identity ring—blue rings are worn by those staying temporarily in the city. Simply pay three spirit stones, and you're good to go." The red one signifies permanent residence; ordinary cultivators must pay eight hundred spiritual stones to stay in the city long-term. Therefore, the blue ring's glow lasts only seven days. Before the glow fades after seven days, the ring's owner must either leave Tianxing City or go to the city gate to exchange for a new one. The red ring's glow, however, is permanent. Once a drop of refined blood is infused into it, the ring becomes recognized and emits light, ensuring it won't be claimed by others. This white cultivator, at the early Foundation stage, explained to Qu Hun with composure and raised one of his hands, where indeed a red ring shone brightly on one of his fingers. Qu Hun nodded silently and immediately accepted the ring. After a brief hesitation, he dripped a drop of blood onto it and then placed it on his hand. "Could you kindly provide me with a red one as well? I also intend to reside in the city for the long term," Han Li smiled and reached into his storage pouch, pulling out eight mid-tier spiritual stones, which he handed to one of the cultivators. Two white-robed cultivators glanced at Han Li with a touch of surprise, but said nothing as they took the spiritual stones and then offered him a red ring. After Han Li dropped a drop of his vital essence to wear it, he smiled and walked with Qu Hun through the city gate. The streets behind the gate were neither small nor wide—four people could walk side by side or two beast-carts pass each other with ease. Along the sides stood rows of green stone houses, clearly ordinary merchant establishments, selling mostly common goods, offering little to see. There were few cultivators on the streets, merely ordinary people buying things or chatting. Neither Han Li nor Qu Hun seemed particularly noticeable or curious to them. Han Li took a moment to observe the scene, then casually raised his head to look up at the sky, where numerous beams of light were moving about, and even cultivators were flying in their vehicles. To his surprise, the largest city of Luanxing Sea had no sky-sealing spell at all. But this also made it convenient for him and Qu Hun, so with a simple gesture he released the Shenfeng Boat and intended to ascend, riding it alongside Qu Hun. "Please hold on!" A male voice suddenly rang out from the street side. Then, a slim man with a neatly trimmed beard stepped forward from a nearby shop, bowing respectfully to Han Li and the other two. This man's eyes flashed constantly, clearly someone with a sharp mind. Yet there was no trace of magical energy emanating from him—plainly a mortal. Han Li showed a moment of surprise, furrowed his brow, and asked, "What is it? Do I know you?" "Ah, yes! My name is Lu Er, and I've never seen either of you two before," the slim man smiled warmly. Upon hearing this, Han Li's expression darkened, showing mild displeasure. But before he could speak, Lu Er quickly added, "Have either of you two just arrived in Tianxing City?" Certainly unfamiliar with this city's roads and conditions, yet the younger one is a native born and raised here, fully well-versed in every detail. Should the two immortals wish to go somewhere or attend to any matter, having the younger one guide them would surely save much trouble—only two spirit stones are required from the immortals. "With that said, the Lu Er looked at Han Li with hopeful eyes. He had already sensed that the young man before him was clearly the one in charge. Han Li smiled gently. "Lu Er, isn't it? If I'm satisfied, I'll give you five spirit stones! But if I'm not, not a single one will I pay!" After saying this with a half-smiling, half-serious tone, Han Li turned his attention to the sky wind boat and stepped aboard, followed by Qu Hun. Standing on the magical artifact, Han Li glanced over at Lu Er beside him. At that moment, the mortal's face was full of uncertainty. As soon as he saw Han Li looking at him, he gritted his teeth and said, "Very well, I'll follow the Master's instructions. I promise to please both of the immortals." Han Li nodded calmly, showing no surprise. With a simple step on the magical artifact beneath him, the Shenfeng Boat descended further, nearly touching the ground. Lu Er, observing this, quickly moved forward and carefully stepped onto it. Then, the boat gently lifted off and began to glide toward the towering mountain at the city's center. When the boat reached several dozen zhang above the ground, Han Li turned back to look at Lu Er. Though he still looked a bit uneasy, his expression had not worsened significantly, so Han Li silently nodded and casually asked, "From your demeanor, it seems you're not new to riding magical vehicles. Have you often served as a guide for visiting cultivators before?" "Indeed, I have previously assisted the Master several times, but flying through the heavens like this—I've only done it twice." Lu Er managed a weak smile, as the height of several dozen zhang seemed rather windy for a commoner. Noticing Lu Er's slightly bluish complexion, Han Li smiled faintly, then suddenly raised his hand, sending a flash of blue light. Instantly, a soft, bluish protective aura formed around the divine wind boat, enclosing all three of them. Lu Er's complexion immediately improved. Before Lu Er could express his gratitude, Han Li already asked, "First, tell me where I might find a place suitable for cultivators to practice without disturbance."
