Chapter Seven Hundred and Fourteen: Uncovering and Ambushing

Back to Chapter List
The Hall of the Setting Sun was not only necessarily constructed at the site of the Spirit Eye, but also guarded by multiple layers of seals. Aside from a few senior elders, no one could approach the hall freely without the explicit permission of the Grand Elder. At that moment, a streak of red light, about a foot long, shot from afar and, after circling several times outside the hall's seals, suddenly slipped in seamlessly, encountering no resistance at all. The red light pierced through several layers of faintly perceptible seals, turned a few corners, and entered a side hall. There, a young woman with a delicate appearance was seated cross-legged on a mat, her skin pale and cold, around twenty years old, exuding a subtle chill. As the red light arrived at her side, the woman slowly opened her eyes, furrowed her brows, and gestured toward the light. Instantly, the red light condensed into a fire ball the size of a fist, which landed directly on her hand. The cold woman stared at the flame, expression unchanged, silent. Then, with a simple hand movement, she extinguished the fire ball instantly. "What on earth is she up to, wanting to see me on her own? Well, if she's softened her stance, perhaps a visit wouldn't hurt!" The woman murmured to herself. Clearly a person of decisive action, she soon transformed into a streak of white light, vanishing swiftly. In a short while, she arrived at the southern gate of the Sunset Pavilion, settling her flight and descending gracefully. She took a moment to survey the surroundings—everything appeared normal. The protective spells and arrays outside the pavilion remained fragmented, with no signs of disturbance. Only then did she feel at ease. She stepped directly to the outer gate and raised her hand, casting a white seal upon the stone door, which opened of its own accord. The pale woman made no ceremony, entering calmly. "Greetings, Master!" There had already been a person waiting inside the hall for some time. As soon as she entered, the figure immediately bowed deeply. The person's appearance was unmistakably the yellow-robed young woman. "Your cultivation seems to have advanced a little since our last meeting." "It seems you've already taken the pills I gave you." The cold woman glanced casually at the yellow-robed young girl and spoke softly before slowly walking deeper into the pavilion. "Thank you so much, Senior, for the medicine! Otherwise, I wouldn't have made such rapid progress." The yellow-robed girl bowed slightly and replied promptly. "You know that, then! Has Nangong Sister remained calm and stable within the estate, showing no unusual behavior?" The woman asked again. "No. Aside from meeting with one disciple today, Senior Nangong has not shown any other signs of unusual activity." The girl replied with careful precision. "I've already heard from your Blue Senior's transmission. That disciple seemed to have presented a gift. Has the person already departed?" "The disciple is merely a junior administrative officer within the sect and has already left several days ago. However, after Senior Nangong received the gift, she appeared somewhat displeased." The girl continued to reply respectfully. "Ah! What kind of gift could have made your senior so unhappy?" Upon hearing this, the woman's expression brightened and she asked curiously. "There's not much to it—just a silver sword artifact. The only thing is, Master Nan Gong seemed rather uneasy upon seeing it." The young woman in yellow lowered her head slightly, yet spoke clearly and methodically. "It's likely a wandering cultivator from Nan Gong's past travels. That makes perfect sense." The cold woman paused, then expressed a touch of surprise. "Indeed, Master Nan Gong is right. After receiving the silver sword, Master Nan Gong thought deeply for some time before suddenly sending a transmission to summon me." "It's quite unexpected that this young disciple has managed to sway Master Nan Gong's decision!" Nan Gong Wan's senior sister now seemed genuinely curious. "From now on, I'll keep a close watch on Nan Gong's movements. With the high-level spiritual seal I'll provide, and given that her current condition limits her to only half her usual spiritual power, she should not notice my surveillance. Once this matter is settled, I'll surely reward you generously." The Grand Elder of Yan Yue Sect casually added this instruction. But as they spoke, the two had already nearly reached the entrance of the hall. "Understood, Senior Master! Master Nangong is already waiting inside," the young girl in yellow replied softly, then guided her to the entrance of the hall. The composed woman had intended to follow her usual cautious habit—carefully scanning the surroundings before stepping inside. Yet as soon as she appeared outside the hall, a voice from within announced, "Sister! Come in. Regarding the matter I've been pondering, I can agree to it for the sake of our sect, but there's one condition—I must have your promise before I commit." Master Nangong's voice was relaxed and calm. Upon hearing this, however, her senior sister was visibly delighted, stepping forward without hesitation and exclaiming with genuine satisfaction, "Master Nangong! You've finally come to your senses—this is wonderful! No matter what condition you propose, as long as you agree to marry Elder Wei of Huayi Sect, I will gladly accept it." "If we can leverage Wei Wuyi's strength, the prosperity of our Yan Yue Sect is surely within reach." As she spoke, she glanced intently into the hall, taking in every detail. Nangong Wan sat in a wicker chair, holding a crude silver greatsword in her hands, crossed horizontally before her, her beautiful eyes fixed and unblinking, carefully appraising it. It seemed as though her words had never actually left her mouth. Upon seeing this scene, the composed woman paused, her steps slowing slightly. Yet she still stepped fully into the hall. A flicker of surprise passed through Nangong Wan's eyes as she prepared to ask a question—then suddenly, her arm shot out with a sudden, sharp motion, grasping backward. The tips of her five fingers projected a sword-like glow several inches long, sharp and piercing—right where the young lady in yellow silk had been standing. Upon facing this assault, the young girl suddenly raised her head with a strange, eerie smile, then bent slightly, her yellow light flashing—her entire form instantly sank into the jade stone floor, leaving only a torn yellow robe on the ground. The girl had vanished completely. At the sight of this unusual earth-transcendence technique, the cold woman did not hesitate; her glow flashed, and she swiftly shot backward, eager to escape the hall. Yet, as her body had just begun to rise, a massive jade sword, several zhang long, roared in from the outer door and struck her squarely, aiming to cleave her in two. The woman's face paled, and with a sudden burst of her fingers, ten slender streaks of cold light shot out, precisely striking the sword. A tremendous roar erupted—the jade light and white glow intertwined—and both the sword and the woman were sent recoiling. The cold woman halted only a few zhang away, having retreated. As the glow of the azure great sword dispersed, it suddenly transformed into dozens of flying swords, swirling and circling unpredictably. At the center of the sword formation, a plain-looking young man stepped forward. If you knew how Sister had treated her fellow disciples, wouldn't you hesitate to oppose her? As for the token you hold—though it can activate the seals on my body—it's not likely that I'll allow you to use it to summon your spells and initiate the Confining Heart Technique. Nan Gong Wan had already drawn her silver sword and stood there gracefully, calmly speaking. Then, opening her lips, a bright crimson circular ring shot out from her mouth—her own soul-bound artifact, the "Zhu Que Ring." Hearing this, the cold woman's expression darkened. Seeing that her opponent, Han Li, showed no signs of retreat, she briefly flashed a stubborn look on her face, then suddenly flung out one of her long sleeves. First emerged a white and then a black flying sword, which, after a graceful spiral, expanded in size to become two massive swords each measuring several zhang in length. The white sword shone as pure as snow, radiating a piercing, bone-chilling cold; the black sword glowed with intense heat, with flickering black flames constantly dancing upon its surface—rarely seen yin-yang ice-and-fire swords. Then, after a cold laugh, the woman gently shook the jade hand holding the red token, bowing her head and murmuring softly. Instantly, the token shimmered with light, and a strange, ethereal red glow began to rise upon its surface. Yet, having closely observed her every move, Han Li could not allow her to activate the seal so smoothly. Without hesitation, he simply raised his hand and threw a small silver bell into the air, which instantly transformed into a streak of silver light swirling steadily above his head. Then, with a swift gesture, he pressed the bell's mouth horizontally, and the bell began to emit a resonant hum, sending out waves of pale silver sound that swept directly toward the cold woman across from him. At the same time, Han Li rubbed his palms together and then swept them outward. Two incantations—one red, one blue—were struck against the two pillars nearby. The magical array and seals previously set up in the hall began to stir and activate, trembling as they came to life.
