Chapter 1535: The Serpent People

Back to Chapter List
Though the giant crab was massive in size, it moved with surprising speed, reaching within no more than seven or eight zhang of Han Li in a short while. Just as Han Li's eyes flashed with a sharp intensity, his abdomen subtly swelled, and his lips parted slightly, as though about to expel something. At that moment, however, a sharp cry of rushing air suddenly broke through the air, followed by a flash of silver light. A projectile streaked from afar and struck the giant crab's substantial body. Though the crab's pale green, sharp plates appeared impervious, they gave way with a deep thud upon contact, being pierced through and embedded within the shell. A spray of green blood erupted. The silver light revealed a silver fork, about one zhang long, with its upper half firmly planted into the crab's back, only the lower half still trembling and swaying outside. Wounded and startled, the crab emitted a thunderous cry, halted its advance, and then instantly changed direction, charging toward the valley entrance. The recent assault had done little damage to this massive creature, instead rousing its fierce wrath. Upon witnessing this, Han Li was naturally taken aback and quickly turned his gaze toward the valley entrance. There, standing there since sometime earlier, were seven or eight figures of varying heights and statures. Their upper bodies appeared to be both male and female, each wielding silver-shining javelins or flying spears as throwing weapons. The men revealed broad, muscular arms, while the women wore tight short-sleeved leather garments, all exuding a bold and vigorous aura. As Han Li scanned their lower bodies, his expression instantly turned surprised. Instead of legs, these figures possessed serpentine bodies of varying thickness and hues, some adorned with faint, almost imperceptible scales. These were people from a different race—indeed, a type of alien he had never heard of before! Han Li immediately formed a clear conclusion. Before he could think further, the giant crab had already surged forward, reaching close to the group of foreign men and women. However, at the commanding voice of a seemingly leading man, the figures swiftly shifted and instantly formed two neat lines—six men in front, seven women behind. With another sharp cry, the leading man ordered the men in the front to simultaneously hurl their silver spears. Six flashes of silver light shot out, striking the giant crab's massive body, yet each spear only penetrated halfway, failing to seriously wound the creature. Instead, the green blood flowing beneath the impacts drove the crab into a complete frenzy. A thick, pungent white foam, smelling of brine and freshness, erupted from its mouth and sprayed far ahead. Upon seeing this foam, the leading man's face tightened slightly, and he muttered quickly under his breath, clearly growing increasingly agitated. Yet, as he reached back and pulled out a flat, round, grayish-white stone slab from his back, a faint luminous glow shimmered upon its surface, suggesting something unusual. But the Han dynasty did not hesitate, firmly pushing the foam in his hand, and threw it straight out. At the very moment of release, the stone shard transformed into a sphere of red light and shot forth, only to collide with the foam, producing a thunderous roar. A surge of intense flame engulfed the foam, and after a brief moment, both were completely consumed. Meanwhile, the giant crab took advantage of the moment to advance to a distance of over ten zhang from the foreign beings. However, at that instant, the first row of six figures suddenly staggered, splitting into two waves that surged outward to either side. Then, with a simultaneous flick of their wrists and a slight backward lean, the giant crab, which had seemed to be charging with renewed vigor, momentarily halted, as if frozen in place. These six foreign men clearly possessed exceptional arm strength, but what caught Han Li's attention more was that each of them wore a soil-yellow wrist guard on their wrists, its surface shimmering with a subtle luminescence, resembling a low-tier magical artifact. With their raw strength augmented by the aid of these wrist guards, they managed to momentarily halt the colossal crab's powerful charge. However, this pause lasted only an instant—then the crab's two massive claws flashed out with lightning speed. A series of deep, resonant thuds followed, and more than two of the slender filaments snapped cleanly, as if sliced by a blade, sending the two foreign men who had been desperately exerting themselves rolling backward. As the crab prepared to swing its claws again and fully free itself, several female foreign figures at the second row precisely launched their silver forks at the right moment. A deep thud followed by a piercing cry, and simultaneously, silver objects plunged into the joints of the crab's seven legs, causing them to buckle and bend—only the last hind leg remained intact. The creature could no longer maintain its balance. A thunderous crash—its massive body collapsed to the ground, crushing the nearby grass and leaving a deep furrow several feet wide. At this moment, the alien observers, who had already been somewhat tense, erupted into cheers, as if victory was assured. The crab, now completely immobilized, offered no resistance. The aliens, both men and women, surged forward, gathering at a distance of about ten paces, and hurled their weapons—spear and javelin—directly at the crab's vital points. With such close range and the crab unable to rise, every attack found its mark. Within moments, the crab was pierced through by dozens of spears and javelins, and lay dead. Han Li lay on the ground, observing everything with a calm expression, though his thoughts raced swiftly. From the manner in which these foreign beings had slain the giant crab—both in their techniques and the weapons and low-tier magical artifacts they employed—it seemed as though there was some deeper significance. Yet, if their current abilities were limited to what was evident now, even if Han Li could not rise, he would pose no real threat to them. Indeed, while these foreign beings moved with agile grace, there was not a single trace of spiritual energy emanating from them, suggesting they were not cultivators at all, but rather more akin to the physical cultivators of the human race. As Han Li pondered this, the figures swiftly disassembled the giant crab, neatly arranging the edible parts—crab meat, crab roe, and so on—into orderly portions on the ground. Their movements were flawless, clearly indicating that slaying such a formidable creature was no uncommon feat for them. At that moment, a beautiful female outsider with particularly supple waist movements suddenly moved several steps to stand beside the leading man, then gently tapped the lying figure of Han Li with her finger, emitting a pleasant sound. The tone was somewhat similar to that of the human race, but upon closer listening, it remained incomprehensible, and sounded slightly indistinct. The leading man had bronze-toned skin, not only being the tallest among all the outsiders, but also the only one whose lower body, composed of a serpentine form, was a deep, dark black. The rest of the outsiders had either pale green or pale white lower bodies, strikingly different from the man's appearance. Upon hearing the woman's words, the man's bright, piercing gaze instantly turned toward Han Li, meeting his calm, steady gaze. Seeing Han Li's composed and tranquil expression, the man was struck with surprise, then quickly glanced at Han Li's legs before his face suddenly turned pale. He hurriedly exchanged a few words with the woman and then rushed over toward them. Though the Han's lower body was serpentine, his movements were astonishingly swift; with just a few twists, he had advanced over fifteen paces. Within mere breaths, the Han reached韩立's presence. 韩立 gazed quietly at the foreigner before him without uttering a word. Yet upon close observation, one could notice that his slightly distended abdomen had not returned to its normal state—it remained subtly swollen. Of course, when the Han first encountered韩立, he could not perceive this subtle difference. But as the Han paused before韩立, suddenly bowed his body, and placed one arm across his chest, he seemed to perform a respectful bow, while uttering a phrase that韓立 completely failed to understand. 韩立's lips curled slightly, revealing a faint wry smile. Though in Tianyuan City, he had nearly mastered all known non-human languages, the words spoken by this Han appeared to be none of the ones he was familiar with. After a moment's hesitation,韓立 asked two questions in a language relatively common across the Fengyuan Continent. But the Han man looked utterly bewildered, clearly unable to understand. Frowning, the man tried several different foreign languages in succession, yet still, with one arm brushing his head, he remained just as confused. Han Li sighed and said no more. At this moment, however, the Han man carefully observed Han Li's appearance and noticed that he seemed motionless. Suddenly, he turned sharply and shouted several times to the other foreigners. Immediately, four of the women among the foreigners set down what they were doing and rushed over like the wind. The Han man then gave clear instructions to the women, who looked at Han Li with surprise before gradually expressing deep respect. After bowing to Han Li, the women began to walk toward the only十余 trees in the valley. As they moved, a flash of silver light appeared, and several of the smaller trees were swiftly brought down by the women, who held strange silver blades in their hands. With a swift flurry of their silver blades, the foreign women managed in a short while to construct a large, rod-like structure using the trees and some of the animal skins they carried. Then, in pairs, they lifted the ends and quickly approached the group. By this point, Han Li was fully convinced that these "serpent people" held no ill will toward him, and his slightly distended abdomen gradually returned to its normal state. Upon placing the "rod" before them, two of the women stepped forward, politely speaking a few words, inquiring about something. Though their language might not be fully understood, Han Li now clearly grasped their intent, and after a brief pause, he gently nodded. At once, the several women in front of him expressed great delight. The two women then bowed once more before carefully lifting Han Li's feet and upper body, placing him gently onto the "rod." They carefully adjusted his position, ensuring that he would feel no discomfort.
