Chapter 2359: The Iron Cage

返回章节列表
The hall was no less than thirty or forty zhang high, with an expanse of area exceeding a thousand mu. However, the originally level surface of the green stone floor was now pitted and uneven, scattered with remnants of flying daggers, swords, and other magical implements, as well as scorched and charred marks from fire and lightning strikes. At the center stood an immense fossilized bone, translucent and luminous like jade, in a form that resembled neither a crocodile nor a dragon, yet distinctly unique. It appeared as though a fierce battle had once taken place between a strange beast and some intruders here. Yet, judging from the depth of the traces, the battle must have occurred quite some time ago. Han Li gazed at the fossilized bone with some astonishment, detecting a faint residual aura upon it, which immediately indicated that the beast had reached the peak of its Consolidated Body stage. A creature of Consolidated Body rank, yet still leaving such vivid battle scars, suggested that among those who had entered this place, there were no beings of the Great Perfection stage. Indeed, the intruders must have possessed at least a solid level of cultivation. From the remains of the magical artifacts and treasures scattered on the ground, it was clear that the combatants must have been several—no less than four or five. After observing for a moment, Han Li's gaze suddenly shifted to a row of wooden shelves positioned in the corner of the hall. These shelves, about two or three zhang in length, were uniformly dark and sleek, holding several silver trays arranged in two rows—each with varying sizes—yet all of them were empty, as though whatever items they once contained had already been removed. Seeing this, Han Li no longer hesitated and immediately stepped forward, heading directly toward the exit at the far end of the hall. The same jade-colored corridor continued to spiral upward. This time, however, it took him a full meal's worth of walking to emerge from the passage. Suddenly, the view opened up, revealing a space several times larger than the original hall. Soft, pale clouds drifted gently above, and fine white sand covered the ground. At the very center of this expansive area stood a triangular structure resembling a temple. Han Li took a quick glance at the building, then with a single hand motion, a translucent small vial materialized. After scanning it, he noticed no special reaction and furrowed his brow slightly, then proceeded toward the temple's already open main gate. "This is the Blood Prison—somewhat different from what I expected." The elder named Yu gazed at the misty sea for a while, then murmured softly. "It must be a trick to deceive the eye. I'll try to dispel it!" The elder beside him replied, his eyes flashing. Then, with a swift motion of his sleeve, a pale blue wooden plaque engraved with a black ghost's head emerged. He raised one hand, pressed a seal, and pointed his finger at the empty space before him. "Pffft!" The wooden plaque expanded instantly, swelling to the size of a door. Five hues of green characters shimmered on its surface, and the ghost's head blinked open its eyes, slowly opening its mouth wide. A thunderous roar followed. A beam of pale, misty light erupted from the spirit's mouth, then spun around before suddenly transforming into a colossal column of vibrant green wind. In a flash, it vanished into the nearby sea of mist. Immediately, a deep rumbling echoed through the black mist, and as the green wind surged, patches of fog were swiftly drawn along, forming a clear, well-defined path. At once, the breeze exhaled from the ghost's mouth grew tenfold stronger than before, surging in a continuous, powerful wave. Within just a cup of tea's time, the vast sea of mist was completely swept away by the gale, revealing most of the scene on the Blood Lake. The three elders, upon gazing at the flames, grew even more delighted. They saw, besides the dense clusters of maggots, several dozen iron cages of varying sizes appearing on the Blood Lake. The smaller cages stood only a few zhang high, while the larger ones reached over a thousand zhang in height. Their surfaces were adorned with unfamiliar, pale golden runes, and within the cages, countless sharp crimson spines covered the inner railings, making them appear remarkably formidable. Most of the cages were open, with only a few sealed perfectly as one, each housing a different, oddly positioned skeletal remains. Although these bones have existed for countless years and their skeletal structures are largely distinct, the lingering traces of vital energy still evoke a sense of astonishment and palpable excitement among the Three Sacred Witches of the Spirit Realm. "These individuals were indeed the great adversaries subdued by Tian Ding Zhiren back then—truly no ordinary figures. Yet, identifying which one is the remains of Tian Wu Master will require careful examination." The final elder, gazing intently at the several skeletons, said with bright eyes. "That's straightforward. Since Tian Wu Master practices the Way of Enlightenment, even upon his demise, his bones will surely differ from the others. We merely need to approach closer, and we'll easily be able to distinguish them." Wu elder smiled lightly. "The other skeletons also belong to individuals of considerable stature—certainly bearing precious treasures. We cannot afford to overlook them." Yu elder expressed his eagerness and greed. "Of course not. "But my primary purpose for this journey is to secure the teachings of the Heavenly Witch. To be safe, I'd like to ensure that first." The elder named Wu finally made his decision. The other two heard him and found his reasoning sound, so they immediately ceased their objections. Each raised their hands, releasing several precious items to shield themselves, and then took off together, swiftly heading toward the nearest black iron cage. The blood lake was so strange that they naturally could not afford to be careless. Yet, to the great surprise of the three Wuzhong, as they approached the cage, the blood sea remained perfectly still—no disturbances at all. They were greatly astonished and delighted. However, upon carefully examining the clearly much smaller, delicate skeleton inside the cage with their divine awareness, each of them exchanged glances and shook their heads in unison, then took off toward another cage containing a corpse. After confirming that neither of the first two was the one they sought, the three gradually found themselves drifting naturally toward the very center of the blood lake. There stood a fourth iron cage, still bearing the remains of its occupants. Unlike the previous three, this one was nearly the largest on the blood lake, soaring several hundred zhang in height, and in addition to the dense, inward-facing thorns lining its interior, the bones themselves were encircled by a long, blood-red chain, winding around in countless loops. The chain itself appeared remarkably aged—its surface covered in rust, and in several places, fine cracks were clearly visible, as though the bones had struggled fiercely during life. The bones within the massive cage were half-human, half-horse, each bone glowing with a clear, jade-green hue, and faint golden light shimmering and pulsing within them. While the upper bodies were exceptionally large, the rest of the figures were otherwise indistinguishable from ordinary human beings. The lower bodies stretched nearly a hundred zhang in length, and the only areas where traces of dry, pale silver fur remained were the four massive hooves. "No doubt about it," said the observer, "this must be the true form of the Heavenly Witch elder. "The elder of the Yu surname merely felt the terrifying aura radiating from the remains and was instantly delighted, exclaiming, 'It's truly the essence of the Wuzhao path! After such a long time, it still maintains such strength. Indeed, he is no ordinary celestial Wuzhao elder!' The last elder, with his eyes closed, also sensed the aura and expressed great excitement. 'But where is the celestial Wuzhao elder's legacy?' said the elder of the Wu surname, frowning after a moment's observation. This remark immediately reminded the other two elders, who realized that throughout the entire iron cage, aside from this massive skeleton, they had not seen any other unusual items. 'What is that?' the three of them examined it carefully before the elder of the Yu surname suddenly brightened and pointed at a specific spot on the enormous skeleton. The other two hurried to focus their attention, and then noticed a faint shadow embedded within one of the massive rib bones, resembling a beam. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to be either a jade plaque or a jade scroll." "Very well. Since this is undoubtedly the place where the Heavenly Witch passed away, let us act now—let's quickly open this cage." The elder with the surname Yu no longer hesitated and hurriedly spoke. The other two naturally offered no objections. At once, a shimmering aura surged from each of their bodies, and several protective treasures instantly transformed into swirling waves, striking hard at a specific point of the iron cage. "Boom!" A brilliant flash of golden light erupted at a spot on the black iron cage, radiating an intense burst of light. The cage trembled several times before settling back into stillness, its glow gradually fading. Elder Wu, after closely observing, immediately frowned. Not a single trace of damage remained on the surface of the cage. "I'll try again!" The elder Yu's eyes flashed with determination as he said, then extended his hand into the air. Instantly, a short sword glistening with blood emerged in his palm, engraved with countless strange patterns of spiritual insects. A translucent, jade-like crystal, the size of a thumb, was embedded at the handle. The elder held the sword single-handed, and with a flash of bloodlight, severed several fingers of the other hand. Then, he murmured incantations and pointed at the void. Instantly, the severed fingers hissed and transformed into fine streams of blood mist, which spiraled into the short sword.
