In the hotel room, the man wearing glasses, one side of his face swollen, sat on the sofa. Beside him was an old man, and across from him a young man dressed in a white shirt, trousers, and polished leather shoes.
"Such a pity," said the old man, a second-largest shareholder of Qin Group—second only to Qin Feng—named Li Changgui. "You're supposed to be a graduate from a Swiss university, yet you're just showing up with no real credentials. You've fooled several companies, but over time, once they found out the truth, you were finally let go."
The man in glasses was his distant nephew, always pretending to be a foreign-educated professional, and had indeed deceived a few firms. But after the truth came out, he had been decisively dismissed. Now, without a job, he had come to seek out his uncle Li Changgui.
Li Changgui had been thinking about how to outmaneuver Qin Feng and Mei Hui, and naturally welcomed this unexpected relative. After a few arrangements, he sent him off to start working.
The Deputy Manager of Human Resources, though not a top-level position, is nonetheless a crucial one—securing this role opens the door to continuously placing people within the company. Even if there's still a manager above, if things don't work out openly, one can always operate behind the scenes.
"Uncle, I didn't expect Qin Group to have anyone who speaks Swiss German—this is only now coming out." The man with glasses quickly explained. "Had it not been for Qin Feng's appearance, I would have easily intimidated the newly appointed HR manager! That woman, Romana, is truly unbearable—she's equally to blame for this situation."
The young man sitting across from him furrowed his brows and asked, "Which Romana do you mean?"
The man with glasses nodded. "Exactly—Romana, the newly appointed HR manager. A stubborn, unpleasant woman. You'd think I'm just her subordinate, not competing for the same position. What could possibly be her reason for refusing to budge?"
Crack!
Another crisp slap interrupted the man with glasses mid-sentence.
The glasses-wearing man, holding his originally undamaged half of the face, looked at the young man with a look of confusion, not understanding why he was being hit again. Li Changgui shared the same bewilderment. The young man coldly replied, "You shouldn't have bothered Romana—someone like you simply isn't worthy of speaking to her. Li, I'm telling you, I don't care how you've messed up Qin Group, but as for this woman named Romana, you'd better keep your distance from her. Otherwise, don't be surprised if I'm not gentle with you."
Li Changgui quickly nodded, saying, "Secretary Wu, please rest assured—I promise this won't happen again!"
"Make sure you remember what you've just said, hmm!" the young man said, with a displeased expression, and then stood up to leave.
As the door closed with a solid thud, the glasses-wearing man finally asked, feeling deeply distressed, "Uncle, what's going on? Who is this person, and why is he hitting me?"
Li Changgui glanced at his unimpressive relative and remarked, "Hitting you is just mild. Who did you think you were, making such
I'll tell you the truth—she's the secretary to the mayor and also the deputy secretary of the municipal government. To get rid of you, she'd find it easier than stepping on a mosquito. "Now that I've finally let go of my hand covering my face," he huffed, "how can I just keep putting up with it? Truly, I've had it bad—got two slap-ups in one day, both cheeks are swollen now. How am I supposed to face people? Uncle, I may not have done much, but I've certainly put in my share of effort. After all, I'm nearly disfigured—can't I at least get some medicine fees? " Watching his nephew, who was now embarrassedly asking for money, Li Changgui gave him another slap. Then he handed over a stack of cash. Since he wanted to see a doctor and buy medicine, let the injury be more serious—so that the medicines he buys won't go to waste. The story of the young heir being sent out with a single slap for exposing his fake overseas return quickly spread throughout Qin's Building. Meanwhile, more female employees began to fall head over heels in love—these days, finding a well-rounded, intelligent, well-off, and
Mei Hui and Fang Fang quickly formed an alliance, declaring their mission: to minimize Hu's opportunities for one-on-one interactions with female staff, especially the newly hired, attractive manager Luoman. Since Qin Feng had stepped in to rescue Luoman, it was far from certain that she wouldn't develop feelings for him—the man so full of masculine strength and vitality. In truth, they were completely mistaken about Feng. At this moment, Qin, the young magnate, was holding a dossier and reading it carefully. It contained a detailed account of Mr. Li Changgui's life—from the time he stole eggplants from his neighbor as a child, all the way to his recent affair with his own daughter-in-law. Though Mr. Li always sat upright and projected an air of dignity and justice during meetings, the fact that he'd managed to have an affair with his own son was truly remarkable. To wear his own son's wife as a mistress was no small feat—indeed, it would be hard to believe, let alone to hear, without laughing out loud.
What's most difficult to explain is that everyone else knows, yet his son remains in the dark, and treats him with genuine care as if he were his brother. "Old man, if you're going to make your own way to the ground, then don't blame me," he packed the key documents into the courier bag. The recipient, of course, was Li Changgui's son—how could such an interesting development go unnoticed by him? With the courier's usual speed, the documents should have arrived in the hands of the green-hatted brother within a few hours. Li Changgui had entered politics early in his career and was among the first group of officials to voluntarily reduce their salaries and go into business, leveraging his sharp mind and extensive network to accumulate substantial wealth. His son had been placed in a public institution and had recently been promoted from deputy section-level to full section-level. The courier bag arrived at the Dongcheng District Family Planning Commission, directly into the office of Li, the Deputy Director. A few minutes later, Li's voice erupted in the office: "How could this be? This is sheer nonsense!"
The Deputy Director is unusually easygoing at work, so this outburst came as a surprise to everyone. Soon after, the Deputy Director, eyes flushed with emotion, found the driver and handed him something, instructing him to rush to the Municipal People's Hospital and deliver it to the Legal Affairs Department, specifically to Director Ma. The hospital's processing speed, of course, wasn't immediate, and moreover, the Deputy Director was embarrassed to admit it was his personal matter—so he could only gently prompt the driver over the phone, with no guarantee on when results would be available, depending entirely on the hospital's schedule. Just as he grew increasingly anxious and frustrated, his wife called to ask if he had picked up their son from kindergarten. "I'm at work," he shouted. "How could it be me?" "The kindergarten staff said it was a government-issued vehicle that picked them up—wasn't that you?" His wife was equally upset. Since you took the child, you didn't even notify them, and now you're refusing to acknowledge it. "I told you—it wasn't me!"
"Where's our son? Oh no, have they taken him hostage? Why aren't you worried at all, Li? Speak up, Li!" The Deputy Director hung up the phone right away, thinking—maybe my son still hasn't been confirmed lost. What's the point of me being anxious? Let someone else worry if they want to! Less than a minute later, Mr. Li Changgui called him, launching into a furious tirade, blaming him for not caring about his son. This only strengthened Li's belief that it was his brother who had gone missing, not his son.
