Wang Tai’s brother? Him?
Li Dongze almost instinctively wanted to remind Miss Xie—your person holding the hem of your dress isn’t Wang Tai, the official Wang Tai is right beside you. How could he possibly have mistaken someone so clearly?
It was rather awkward… but then Li Dongze's face tightened—he realized that it was *he* who hadn’t grasped the situation.
Miss Xie had come specifically to see Yuan Shi Tian Zun. She hadn’t even glanced at the others in the second organization—her destination was as clear as daylight. So why would she be seeking Wang Tai?
Guan Ya’s playful smile froze on her face as she looked first at Yuan Shi, then at Xi Lingxi, her graceful, oval face gradually losing its expression.
Only Wang Tai exhaled quietly and felt a little relieved.
“What are you doing in Place Longhai? Do you need our Wang Tai to welcome you?”
Zhang Yuanqing, standing tall at one point eight meters, looked down with an air of superiority at the petite green tea girl—though his legs were long, he was actually quite short in stature.
“I said I’d be looking for you!”
Xi Lingxi bounced excitedly on her spot, speaking with genuine delight.
How could it be otherwise? Truly a young woman—one so light and graceful that she didn’t wobble when jumping like Guan Ya did, who was a plumper figure.
“What’s there to look for? I specifically said we don’t need to stay in touch.” Zhang Yuanqing expressed his mild dissatisfaction.
Xi Lingxi pouted, eyes glistening with tears, her tone full of hurt:
“How can you be so cold toward me? Last time you were so attentive and protective—had even taken away one of my most precious items—and now you’ve turned your back on me.”
Li Dongze, Guan Ya, and Wang Tai all stared at Zhang Yuanqing with open astonishment.
If it were Wang Tai facing such a delicate young woman, his mind might have shut down completely, and any normal person would have found themselves awkward or constrained—doubtful of what to say next.
But Zhang Yuanqing was different. After pausing for a moment, he suddenly burst out laughing, reaching around to hold Xi Lingxi’s waist gently.
“Chief, she’s volunteered—it’s not my fault you’re so eager.”
Xi Lingxi blinked—only the warmth and strength of his hands pressing against her waist made her feel a sudden chill. Her face flushed instantly, and like a startled rabbit, she stepped back away from him.
“You—you…” She couldn’t speak for a moment, her eyes wide and wet with tears.
Witnessing this scene, Li Dongze and Guan Ya—both as scouts—felt it was something to be noted.
With Xi Lingxi’s behavior now eased, Zhang Yuanqing explained:
“She met me last night while we were playing the game.”
Li Dongze suddenly recalled the incident when Zhang Yuanqing had impersonated Wang Tai. If Miss Xie had also arrived at the Jinshui Amusement Park that same evening as a Realm Walker, then everything made sense now.
She hadn’t come to see Wang Tai—she’d been mistaken all along.
At this moment, the real Wang Tai looked toward Chief Zhang and said:
“Since it’s not for me, may I go now? I have research to complete.”
Xi Lingxi finally noticed him. She was surprised—this ordinary-looking man seemed utterly unperturbed, neither disappointed nor displeased. In fact, there was a subtle sense of relief and even joy about him.
Xi Lingxi tilted her head slightly, adopting a soft, delicate tone:
“You’re the true Wang Tai brother, aren’t you? It’s a pleasure to meet you. I didn’t mean to be mistaken—I was deceived by Yuan Shi Tian Zun.”
Wang Tai responded earnestly: “I’m not at all upset—indeed, I feel a little delighted.”
Xi Lingxi: “???”
Li Dongze cleared his throat and said:
“All right—let the driver take you back first.”
Wang Tai wasn’t naturally social—he wouldn’t have stayed if forced.
After Wang Tai departed, Xi Lingxi led the three of them to a table and instructed the staff to serve their meal.
At dinner, she kept calling everyone “sister” or “brother,” her pure and sweet appearance paired with a soft, gentle voice that left both Li Dongze and Guan Ya deeply impressed.
“Yuan Shi Tian Zun, you belong to the White Tiger Army, right? And how about the other organizations?”
“The White Tiger Army—I like the White Tiger.”
“Yes—my old ancestor mentioned that the White Tiger Army is the most disciplined of all—their rules are strict, sometimes rigid—but they’re the most reliable in the Five Elements Alliance.”
“You’re clearly praising us!”
“How could I not? Yuan Shi Tian Zun always sees people through a lens of suspicion.” Xi Lingxi scolded him with a glance, continuing to chat. “Besides the White Tiger Army, the Chì Huǒ Clan is the purest—though my ancestor didn’t particularly like them; thought they were too rough and enthusiastic. Yuan Shi Tian Zun, do you know what the Chì Huǒ Clan’s emblem was before the Five Elements Alliance was formed?”
“I don’t.”
“It’s a person with a bull’s head!”
“What?”
“The Chì Huǒ Clan claims descent from the Yellow Emperor—specifically, the Divine Farmer. And the Divine Farmer had a bull’s head and human body. I heard that before the formation of the Five Elements Alliance, people in the four organizations often used this fact to tease them—sometimes even making them angry. The best way to irritate a Fire Master? Just say loudly right in front of him: ‘The Bull-Head must die!’”
Li Dongze coughed violently and looked at Zhang Yuanqing with serious intent:
“Miss Xi, that was all just a joke—don’t bring up old history like this. Don’t let people hear it.”
“What would happen if they heard it?” Zhang Yuanqing asked.
“They’d be killed.”
“And what if I say something like ‘pure love warrior appears uninvited’ instead?” Zhang Yuanqing took a bite of the tender stir-fried beef and, after a thoughtful pause, raised another question:
“I remember that Character Cards are issued randomly—why then do we have families of Realm Walkers?”
Xi Lingxi sipped her freshly squeezed coconut juice, tilted her head, and said with a sweet smile:
“Have you ever heard of the term ‘professional tendencies’? Different professions come with different characteristics—for instance, Fire Masters tend to be passionate, impulsive, and bold.”
Zhang Yuanqing nodded.
Xi Lingxi smiled further:
“The Character Cards are selected based on personality—people who are naturally passionate often receive the Fire Master card; those with a calm demeanor are more likely to get the Water Spirit card. As for the criminals, they end up receiving the Evil Organization role.
And then, once you’re in that profession, it influences your personality even further—passionate people grow even more passionate, and quiet ones become even quieter. What do you think about two Fire Masters having children? Wouldn’t their offspring be highly likely to inherit that same passion over generations? That’s how the family traditions gradually form.
But even with this process, not every member of the Realm Walker families receives a Character Card.”
Zhang Yuanqing suddenly understood—so why had he received certification as the Night Wandering Deity? What was special about the Night Wandering Deity profession? Was it mysterious and noble?
The dinner concluded pleasantly. The four of them talked well, enjoying each other’s company.
Li Dongze suggested they part ways at this point. But Xi Lingxi gently held on to Zhang Yuanqing’s arm, speaking softly:
“Chief Li, could you lend me your person for a bit? I’ll arrange for the driver to bring him back later.”
Seeing that Li Dongze hesitated, she quickly clasped her hands together in a gesture of earnest appeal.
Who could resist such a young lady? Li Dongze nodded slightly:
“No need to trouble yourself, Miss Xi—I’ll have the driver waiting at the hotel entrance. Yuan Shi Tian Zun—please remember to call me when it’s done.”
Zhang Yuanqing nodded and watched as Guan Ya and Li Dongze walked toward the exit.
Only once their silhouettes disappeared around the corner of the rotating hall did Xi Lingxi turn her nose slightly, huffed:
“Her chest is so large, and her hips so round—clearly someone who’s always out to charm men!”
…
Inside the elevator cabin, Guan Ya chuckled:
“How young she is—and how much strategy she carries! Do today’s girls have such a strong tea flavor?”
To any scout, every pretense was ultimately futile.
Li Dongze, holding his walking stick and stroking his short mustache, said:
“She seems to have some reserve—especially toward you, and she clearly has a special interest in Yuan Shi Tian Zun. Also, it appears that she has something specific she’d like to discuss with him—and intentionally arranged for us to be diverted.”
During dinner, the young woman kept praising Guan Ya’s beauty and figure, often saying with admiration: “Guan Ya Sister is so beautiful—she must have had many boyfriends, doesn’t she?”
Guan Ya rolled her eyes:
“She can’t keep up with Yuan Shi Tian Zun in terms of depth. When it comes to inner strategy, he’s far more profound.”
Guan Ya had visited Zhang Yuanqing’s room and checked his computer—beneath his cheerful and open demeanor was a quietly reserved heart.
But as a scout, if she hadn’t accessed these private details, she would never have been able to detect such depth simply by observing him from the outside.
Meanwhile, Xi Lingxi had seen through her essence immediately.
There was clearly a gap in their levels of perception.
…
When you called Guan Ya ‘Sister’ earlier, you were quite close and affectionate, weren’t you?
Zhang Yuanqing no longer pretended:
“So what brings you to Place Longhai—wasn’t it specifically to find me?”
Xi Lingxi rolled her tongue playfully:
“I came to Longhai on behalf of my family—to visit an old acquaintance. Have you heard of Zhishake Palace?”
Zhishake Palace? The famously eccentric Zhishake Palace? Zhang Yuanqing nodded: “Of course.”
“The family from which the palace’s master hails has been a long-time friend of the Xie family—until one unexpected event, the family declined and the connection between the two families faded away,” Xi Lingxi said with a reflective tone.
“Then, in recent years, the palace master has risen strongly—becoming an elite Realm Walker—and thus re-established contact with the Xie family.”
Zhang Yuanqing suddenly recalled this—he remembered that Zhishake Palace possessed a high-level Prop of the Musician Skill and had many members within its organization who were musicians. And the Xie family was itself a renowned Musician Skill dynasty—now it all made sense.
Xi Lingxi smiled: “I’ve another matter here in Longhai—but I’ll need to obtain Yuan Shi Tian Zun’s approval first.”
“What is it?”
“Didn’t your father-in-law, at his final moments, ask you to deliver a message to someone he trusted?” Xi Lingxi asked hesitantly.
“Could I also go?”
“What’s the reason?”
“I don’t want to owe anyone. He never told me—so I assumed he doubted my official background. But in reality, it’s *you* who are officially affiliated with the organization.” Xi Lingxi kept her lips pressed together.
“So you’re actually watching over me,” Zhang Yuanqing said, looking at her sideways.
“You knew from the beginning that I am Yuan Shi Tian Zun—so you publicly requested a meeting with our second organization and asked for my personal attendance—to give yourself a reason that I could not possibly refuse.”
Clearly, the father-in-law feared being drawn into the official sphere—he didn’t want the official organization members to handle his final request. But he was unaware that Yuan Shi Tian Zun himself belonged to the Five Elements Alliance.
If he were to send someone else—well, it might just bring in an unwelcome visitor.
…Xi Lingxi was completely touched by this insight: “Yuan Shi Tian Zun is truly remarkable.”
